Right hand controls install CB500
« on: January 15, 2014, 08:15:33 AM »
So my RH controls including the kill switch, start button and headlight control were rough at best.  I looked at rebuilding it but the screws holding the connectors were stripping too easily, the dial for the kill switch was broken...better to start anew IMO.

So I pulled the control and the harness through the headlight bucket and handle bar...what a PITA that was.

Could use some advice on how best to thread the new harness through the handlebar.  I used some white lithium grease to help move things along but it was a hell of a fight.  I figure inserting will be worse, but I was thinking if I used some wire wrapped at the front end of the harness and shrink wrapped the connectors, perhaps that would help with the pull and push.  Any tips appreciated!

I had some heavy string I put through the bar (Use an air gun to blow it through) I tied the string around the wires and taped them together with electrical tape. You will want to put the bars in a vise so you can pull with one hand and push with the other. Other than that… take your time.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Thanks, MJL.  Appreciate the advice.  The correct control should be here later this week so I'll be putting this to good use.
