...but can I shim the jet needle to raise it a little more?

OK, tried a few things and though not perfect, she's idling and running pretty good.

I moved the clip on the needle all the way to the bottom most position (to raise the jet needle) and have gotten the best results so far from that.  Midrange power seemed to improve with every position I moved the clip lower, but she doesn't really open up until about 6,500 rpms

Is there any way to have it go any further?  Can I put a shim or washer under the clip to raise the needle any further?  I'd like to see if that helps any more.  Has anyone EVER had to do this?

Yes, I have done it until I got my Dyna needle kit. Worked just fine in my case.

...that is the nature of these beasts...raising the needle will not get it to "open up" any sooner.  Be sure and read your plugs if you do raise it more, theres a good chance you'll start to run rich...

Check your low speed mix. You may not need to change the clip or needle position. You could be running to rich on the bottom end. And that can affect your power quite a bit.
