This was a cb550k with a farked piston
Now it has a new top end with 3mm over pistons kit from cruznimage on ebay in japan.
Cylinder block was decked a couple thou at machine shop so there is a teensy weensy increase in compression.
Carpy's 4-1
emgo cheap as dirt pods.
pd46a carbs fully disassembled and refurb'd.
105 main
42 pilot
stock needle in stock position
2 turns out on the magic screw.
bench synched then manometer synched
I had stock airbox and uni filter on it. It was starving for fuel with the stock 90 mains, and I didn't have any sizes till 105, and it was too rich with those and the stock set up. So that's why the pods. Plus, the airbox now makes a supergreat compartment for tools and a lock etc.
She pulls HARD -- like "Holy Crap Batman" hard, right from the bottom. I'm loving it. But unlike previous bikes I've done, on this one I can feel the transition between components in the carbs (from pilot to needle especially).
I am getting some intermittent crackle/gurgle sounds and every few mins one little pfft-pop back through an intake. You know what I mean? I hear it on idle and just off idle. It's rare.
Plug-chop done with Engine hot. In fact, earlier in the day it was running what felt like too hot after 20 mins on the freeway.
So my thought is maybe I am running a bit lean in the midrange... like I need to shim up the needles or (somewhere?) find another profile for this setup? Plugs are almost devoid of tan color.
I will follow this with a link to a video of it running. :-)
