Heard about this from a friend. His co-worker had it for sale and he didn't have the cash. It was cheap. Let's just say I ought to be able to get it running for about 50-60% of fair market value.

Build date of 5/71 and titled as a '72.

My plan is to offer it to a friend that is looking for something a little bigger (he rides a CB200) and, if he passes, throw it up for sale.
The seat is kinda fugly, IMO, buut overall it's a nice little bike.

The seller bough tit for his wife, who ended up not wanting to ride. He rode it home and says it goes through all the gears nice and he hit at least 60 mph. He took off the side covers to polish them. They're all there and I ordered up some fresh gaskets to reassemble.

I've never seen an exhaust like this before...any idea what kind it is?

He was telling me something about a clip missing on the oil pump cover.

He bought a new cover from eBay and say I just need to swap it over. I'm not familiar with the twins. Does this look complete?

I also read up on cleaning the centrifugal oil filter. That's a new one on me! Some people say leave it alone, others say clean it. Thoughts?

Got her partially stripped yesterday. The carbs are free and he drained the bowls when he parked it. I think I can get by with some Simple Green and carb cleaner and they'll be fine.
New fuel lines and filters.
The tank had a failing Kreem liner....HATE that stuff. Acetone made quick work of that last night! It still needs a little cleaning and, possibly, resealing with RedKote or POR15, both of which I already have. The petcock is soaking in a Simple Green bath right now. It was brand new, but full of varnish and old fuel.

I hate to do it, but I guess I'll try to get her started with these air filters. Replacements are crazy expen$ive, and I'm not sure I want to get into pods.
Twins and CV carbs seem to be a little more forgiving of pods, in my experience. Anyone know anything about running pods on the Honda twins?

Not counting the gas I bought for my buddy for hauling it home, I think I can get it running/riding/stopping as it should for about $100-125, including a new battery.

Neat little bike, and if I didn't already have too many I'd spend a few extra bucks and a little more time and make it really special. But then I'd be tempted to keep it.

Great bikes, I have had two of these. Don't know why I keep selling them.

Plenty of parts available from Honda and flea bay. They made over 500,000 and is still the largest production run.

Air filters? Spend the money. Did it have the air filter covers?

Just sold this original sweetheart. I'm sure I'll regret it but I'm done building for a while.

Strip the paper pleats off of the old filters and replace it with foam filer material.

Yes, air filter covers and side covers are there. I thought about the foam thing. Been looking for a "tutorial" online as I'm sure someone else has done it before.

It takes a few hours of work (not fun) to remove the paper element from the stock airfilter and to cut and fit Unifoam material onto them. It can be done, but it isn't a walk in the park. I gave up on it after torching and scraping for an hour. I can sell you brand new in packaging Uniform material if you plan to do this as I gave up myself.

DO NOT go with pods. Instead go with Unifoam socks, which is the next best thing to the stock air filters. Cheap, includes mounting hardware. The word around is that it doesn't require rejetting and has the same restriction characteristics as the stock filters. I'm using them on my CB450 restoration, but I can't provide any direct feedback as of yet.

It's hard to tell, but the paper element doesn't look "that" bad and it should be the last thing you do. I've seen these bikes run great on far worse looking filters than that.

Use the parts fische on the centrifical filter cover. You want ALL peices to be in there before starting the engine. You also want to get to the filter to assure that it's clean. The previous owners on my SL350 didn't clean the filter and I literally scraped 10 table spoons of metal gunk out of it.

I would get rid of the seats and bars faster than probably anything else. Consider that CB350 white decals on the tank could go a long ways if you like black to give it more shape and character. Emblems are probably easy to get for that bike too.

That bike looks very similar to my CB450 when I got mine. Black (not a professional job, but not horrible). I would heavily recommend spending $5 on to get the chrome tank trim on eBay. It really makes the bike look a hell of a lot nicer and gives it better visual separation and creates a bigger look. Otherwise the tank looks small and undefined. This is a personal choice obviously, but it makes a big difference at a cheap cost.

Those filters look like they would do for the occasional rider, clean out the oil slinger and yes the photo of it looks complete. I don't recognize the pipes but I do like them. I have a set of stock ones in fairly good original condition if you need them, also a set of new pod filters and Accel coils. Miscellaneous other motor parts too...Larry

I did the UNI foam thing to my filters. It was a biatch

...but worked good. Now If I could only figure out why the ignition won't stay set for more than 5 miles...

I think to open the spinner filter, there is a clip that you remove to open it up..

I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the carbs. It appears the P.O. actually drained them prior to storage.

I've already given them a Simple Green bath and will use a little carb cleaner and compressed air next. I do need to replace a few shrunken O-rings. Overall, very nice and easy.

Are the slide diaphragms in good condition? Old ones get hard and crack, and they are reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallll expensive to replace...Larry

If the plate holding screws have been replaced, check that they're not too long. Very little clearance behind it.

Removed the failing Kreem liner with a couple of steps.
First, I rinsed with acetone and some tumbling media. Followed that with a bottle of Marine Clean (leftover from a POR15 kit) and some hot water. I shook that around with a couple of lengths of chain and some stones.

After that, I used "The Works" method. Neutralized that with water/baking soda and followed up with denatured alcohol and some compressed air.
Normally, at this point, I'd add some gas or, if I'm storing it for a bit, Marvel Mystery Oil. I can still see some teeny-tiny flecks of the old liner hanging on it spots. If the in tank petcock had a better filter, I'd just run it this way.
However, I think since it was so rough to begin with I'll coat it with POR15 or Redkote, just to be safe.

Got the tank lined with POR15. We went back after removing the plug and used a brush to treat the inside of the filler neck and the gas cap.

Pulled the oil filter and it was delightfully clean. It appears that this was a well maintained bike.
Installed the new kick starter shaft oil seal (it came out when the P.O. polished the side cover) and got that buttoned up. I had only turned the engine over by hand....now that I can kick it, I can tell that it's got nice compression.
I bet the exhaust is going to sound nice, too.

Started working on the LH side. I'm missing the screws that hold the alternator/field coils on. No problem...I can source those.

But then I noticed that the clutch lifter worm gear assembly thing is missing. It, too, must have been removed for polishing. I'm 99% sure the 360 used the same assembly, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Anyone have one laying around?
I could also use the stepped bolt and spring for the kick stand.
