The good news is I've got the replacement right hand control in place for my new girl (low mileage but left without luvin' for too long). Thanks for the great tips on threading the wiring harness and BIG thanks to David Silver Spares for sending me the right part! Headlight, turn signals, the dummy lights, driving and brake light (weak second filament so I'll get a new bulb), horn and starter working proper.
I've got new plugs and battery in place, but the spark is weak...weak or non-existent...it's random. I've tested the resistance of the plug caps and they are high....10.5K ohms. Need new ones. I have not tested the plug wires (originals I believe) and I have no idea how to test the coils. I cleaned the points up a bit, but have not swapped them out yet. I do have a new panel including points, etc... that came with the bike (Daiichi I believe so nothing fancy) that I'll swap out tomorrow and I'll need to read up on how to swap it and set the gap on the points and timing.
Any recommendations on how to test the coils and the plug wires would be appreciated. Also, I've read quite a few threads here and I want to be sure I get the right replacement plug caps. As best I can tell it depends on the plug wires and the coils. The goal is to achieve a defined level of resistance depending on the year of the bike. So if there are recommendations on easily accessible plug caps and/or wires for my bike, and coils if I need them, would be great. Looks like the plug wires do not come out of the stock coils so I'm not clear on how to replace them.
Thanks.
