Making a brake stay arm
« on: January 25, 2014, 03:06:21 PM »
Hey all,

I'm putting a 150 rear tire and it doesn't clear the brake stay arm.  I am looking at making something like this:

i'd bend my stay arm except that my stock brake stay are is the round type.  I'm thinking of just using some flat steel bar stock from home depot.

Any suggestions/recommendations/warnings?

Here's a cheap one on Ebay, probably cheaper to just bend this than make your own if you have to buy material:http://www.ebay.com/itm/69-78-Honda-CB350-750-Rear-Brake-Hub-Stabilizer-Bar-W-Mount-Bolt-43431-286-010-/111068291633?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19dc2fa231&vxp=mtr

Have you tried to just dent it in where the tire will be with a large ball-peen hammer for clearance?
I have done just that, with success, on a couple of my bikes that have the round tube-type brake stay.

Is there anything more fun than riding? They are between your legs and are quiet when you turn them off.

I've personally done the hammer massage, but will likely end up making an aluminum unit down the road. I have 6 plus yrs on the hammered to clear one with zero issues. It'll get you going untill you make one nicer.
