OBX in June
« on: April 03, 2014, 05:29:52 PM »
So my dad, best friend, and I have settled on a date in mid june to take a short tour from raleigh up the OBX and back.  We planned about 3.5 days so we could be leisurely.  I am planning on us stopping at the lighthouse and such and camping along the way.  Anybody know some cool places to check out and interesting places to camp?  I have only been there once when I was in 6th grade.

I'll be on a 750 K4, my dad on a 2011 Boulevard, and my friend on a 91 Road King.

Sorry, can't help, but I'm wondering which bike will draw the most comments.

What's it called when you ask a question you already know the answer to?

Are you being rhetorical now, or previously?   :D

We been there for a week few years back, stayed at Duck.  Lovely area, could be boring at times since all is flat.  I remember having a close call dosing behind the wheel somewhere on the coast road.

Check out Kitty Hawk, that's about the main attraction besides the light house.

OK, beach dwellers also can be easy on the eyes  ;D

Several Ferry trips avaiable, Bridge to Hatteras Island if open is a neat view from a bike.  The light house has an exhibit from when the lighthouse was moved back from the ocean due to erosion.

Yeah, when I was there they were in the process of moving it so it was all framed up.  We plan on this being very leisurely and just a chance to explore the nooks and crannies of a pretty small but cool place.  I definitely want to check this place out:

Last time I was there, a highlight of the trip was Ocracoke.  My Uncle used to camp there at the National Park Service campground every year and found it a great place to relax.  We were there in December, so I have no personal experience with the campground.

We booked it down to from raleigh yesterday in order to make it to the ferry and hit some rain but it was a good ride. Once we got to the island we had a fee beers and left the bar just in time for a down pour. That cleared after an hour but about midnight a heavy storm rolled in and needless to say my rain cover failed and I ended up getting soaked. . .  Beautiful morning though and ready to head on to the other islands.
