barnfind 500 vin help
« on: January 26, 2014, 05:10:31 PM »
I can't seem to locate a vin decoder on the site or google.....I would rather not have to buy a $25.00 + or - book by Honda to find out what year model bike I have. My frame number is 1015827. The actual vin plate reads cb500-1045827.  Any help would be appreciated.....Tim

1971 -Frame CB500-10000001~

The 72s were : CB500-20000001~

The 73s were : CB500-21000001~

Your VIN plate # is different than whats on the frame?

This info was easy to find by Google searching "Honda CB500 VIN"

Welcome to the forum. You can also take a look at the sticker on the steering head. It should have your frame number stamped in and you will also see a month/year in the corner. That will tell you the month and year it was made. Keep in mind the bike could be a 1971 and titled as a 1972. Once you get up to speed how about a few pics.

Tblem- just for clarification, the frame and engine #s will differ. The right side of steering head should have a sticker with the production date and info, and the left side a stamped in VIN. The stamp and sticker should definitely match.

He wasn't saying the engine number was different. He said the frame number and the VIN number were off by 30,000. I think he misread the numbers. Vin numbers don't go by the engine number on Honda's as far as I know.

Im aware of what he said, but since he indicated he may have misread the VIN, I wanted to express the locations and differences, in case this was his first visit/SOHC.

I took the time today to clean the barn funk off of the id numbers and as suspected I had one number wrong. The frame and the vin are the same. Sorry guys for the bad info. I did find out it is a 1971.....Thanks for the help.............Tim

I would say that is 5th or 6th month 1971. Does it not have a vin plate on the RH side of the headstock If you have the details from the vin plate and also frame and engine i would appreciate the details to go into my ever increasing data list
