After market turn signal wiring probz.
« on: January 28, 2014, 04:57:54 PM »
I bought after market turn signals for my '78 cb750f. The wiring diagram for my bike shows that on the front turn signals there are 3 wires. See picture.

It looks like one wire is a power wire, one is ground, and one is a wire that comes from the signal switch. My turn signals came with only one wire coming out of them. So, we hooked up ground wires to each bulb housing and it created a functioning ground. The problem now is that the front turn lights still lack one wire. When I plug the power wire into the blue and white striped wire (turn signal switch), it causes all of the turn signals to light up. When I plug the power wire into the solid blue wire (power I think), none of the turn signals light up. Any ideas? Suggestions? Good jokes?

The blue stripe and orange stripe are for running lights. The solid blue and orange are indicator lights. The striped ones are used for dual filament bulbs.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

You can no longer use your running lights up there, only the solid light blue and orange can be used.

we didnt get running lights here in australia but ive seen them on harleys and others though,i think they can confuse drivers thinking your going to turn?(and pull out into your path?)especially if one globe is out?im not sure on the ruling here but i dont like them for that reason.

2nd that. DOT here is pretty useless as far as making smart decisions like that tho. Refuse to evolve too

Does DOT require them?

Depends on the area. Most areas get around passing/keeping up with legislation by saying vehicles have to be equipped and have functioning whatever came with the bike.

Some of the more trailer/bar hoppers hook them up for inspection and then take them off. You gotta look up local stuff tho. You can use local guys as a reference.

For instance where I live you would think that vehicles in general don't even have turn signals they way the (don't) use them. Nobody really cares to much what I do on my old bike either
