 What slick should I use on the drag bike restore? M&H has two, an 18x4 nostalgia tire and a harley tire 16x5. The bike has a beautiful 16" rim on it now, but it ran with an 18" back in the day. The slick and wheelie bars were long sold off and I need to replace them.
 I'm wondering if the 16X5 would even fit in the swingarm, I think the width is 6" at the sidewall the 18x4 is 5" at the sidewall.

 Who has auctual experience with this? Are there other options?

If you want it to have the authentic oldskool-look, 18".
Just my opinion, no experience with slicks.

Mickey Thompson makes a 18X5.5" slick. I ran one on my no bar F model up until I set it up to run street ET with Bill and Sam. Easily obtainable from any dragbike parts distributor and less than $200. Try Marion Ford at the FBR Shop- he offers contingency money if you win or runner up in a race. Not sure if Jay at APE carries tires.

On my bike there about 1/4" to 5/16" of space between the chain and tire with the M/T 18X5.5 and I have my tire centered in the frame. To get a wider tire on it will take some work. Now if you are running a 9 sec bike you may need a bigger tire.

Geeze Don, if you weren't so far away I have a set of wheelie bars and mounts for a cb750, it was on the old drag bike i bought a few years back....  It would cost a small fortune to send them over.....shame..

i used a Goodyear 5.5 x18 on a 3.5 Akront ,was going to use 6x26x15 M&H but changed my mind n going back to 18.... but was in a 1100F honda swingarm ,

I like the MT's, I'll give them a good look. The 16"er wouldn't be authentic but cheaper because I have the rim,if it fit. The 18" rim that was on it was a rolled edge sandcast rim and I put it back on the sandcast bike that it came from.

The 18 X 4 fits a stock width rim. If you relace a wider rim, us the 5.5" slick. The 18 X 4 is a fairly tall tire compaired to the more modern 5.5" and 7" slicks. About a couple more rear teeth to get the same results as the shorter slicks. You can run 11's no problem with the 4" version. I've got one on my stock GPZ1100. If your motor is good for 10's, I'd go with the 5.5 version properly geared. The 18 X 4 is the M&H mold now made by Coker tires. :D

 It should run a good number if I ride it right. I might need a lesson, not so sure about letting go of the clutch at rpm's. I wish the PO was still living so I could ask questions.

Check with Bill, he has two club foot swingarms and at least one set of wheelie bars.

 I borrowed a 5.0 x 16 slick for a Harley. The owner had it on a sportster th a stock rim. It's 4 years old already and he wants too much for an old tire but he was nice enough to let me bring it home to look.

I got sidetracked and relaced the 16" wheel on a four hole hub. I was hoping to get my 18" wheel back from chrome then make the drive to my tire guy, 30 miles each way but worth the trip.  I did go ahead and buy the slick, it looks huge dismounted but should narrow a lot mounted.

I'm doing a test run on carb rubbers in tire treatment, I couldn't help paint the old slick with a coat or two. Hopefully it will keep it from sidewall cracking.
