Z1parts.net fork tubes
« on: January 28, 2014, 01:55:57 PM »
I am in need of a set of replacement fork tubes for my restoration. I came across the Z1parts.net fork tubes for $129.00 but there length is listed at 22 1/4" which is shorter than other tubes like CycleX or Dime City Cycles which are listed at (22 13/16")

Has anybody used these or had any problems with these? Also maybe someone could confirm the length?

I believe Tweakin just bought a set.  The CB750's used two differant lengths, The F's were longer.

My main concern is 73-76 are typically advertised at 22 13/16" and 77-78 at 23 13/16" so where is Z1's 22 1/4" coming from? I just dont want to waste the money on these to find out there wrong or wont work. I was hoping someone could confirm against a bought set?!?!?

I never measured the tubes when I got them fromZ1 but I am more than happy with the quality and fitment.  Check out my thread, they seem to be proper length.

Chris Do you have a 1976A front end on your 74 750? I haven't had A tubes/lowers apart to see if there's any differences  between K/A tubes but it's something you might want to look into before you place your order.

I doubt 9/16" will make a lot of difference, also make sure your springs are not sagging badly. I read you can trim the spring a 1/2" and put in a 1" long spacer to tighten things up a bit. I like them a bit low.

I got a set last week, put them next to my old rusty k5 forks and they were an exact match in length.

ok,I'm going to try this again because it may or may not be important before Chris places his order.

From what I gather this is Chris's bike.

Either Chris or the PO laced an aluminum rim or maybe it's a 76A front end on his bike. If it is a 750a front end on the bike, will the tubes he's contemplating work with the internals of the 750a lowers?

As far as i can tell the wheel is off a automatic, i also have the longer lower stantions that are also 77-78.

From what i can tell the tubes share the same dimensions except length, the 77-78's are an inch longer. I want to retain the stock ride height for 74 so im planning on using the shorter 73-76 tubes to achive this.

worst case if i buy the 73-76 and they wont work with the 77-78 stantions then i will drag out a spare set of 73-76 stantions and build them up only problem is there pretty rough.

I have more or less done all the research i can regarding this. Im 99% sure the parts can be mixed safely with the desired ride height and geometry. Now the question is just which aftermarket tubes to buy, these are the cheapest, but have this strange advertised length

I got a set last week, put them next to my old rusty k5 forks and they were an exact match in length.

I kinda assumed its probably a typo on the website, the Z1 tubes are the only ones advertised at that length.

I sent them a email a few weeks ago regarding this and never heard back. At this point I think Im gonna get my fork tubes from a different supplier mostly because it makes more sense with fewer orders and less shipping
