What is the pitch on the 6mm transmission & dynamo cover bolts?
« on: January 28, 2014, 07:39:43 PM »
It appears that a previous owner managed to strip a few of the holes that the engine side cover bolts thread to.  Does anyone know the pitch?  I need to order a helicoil kit.  My bike is a K8 if it makes a difference.

Typically, 6mm bolts on japanese bikes are 1.0 pitch. (standard pitch, not fine)

Is there anything more fun than riding? They are between your legs and are quiet when you turn them off.

Thanks!  Nothing like learning form a gasket was the only gasket between the transmission cover and the case and that form a gasket was also used to hold the bolt in the stripped case hole.

The one I like is putting blue loc-tite on an already stripped out thread. You know, to glue the bolt in place for the next guy to deal with. It's just a stand up PO looking out

I probably shouldn't complain too much. I bought a runner and a leaker for 700 bucks, which isn't bad for California. Still, I can understand being too cheap to spend 30 dollars on a helicoil kit, but a bigger tap and bolt is just 10 bucks!

I would rather have a stripped hole you can still helcoil, than 1 different bolt and the cover hole drilled oversize..

Helicoil or it's cheaper versions are much better than glue. Allen heads to avoid stripped screw heads that is PITA to remove. I drilled some philips screws many years ago. No more  X-screws. hex or allen

I'm so pleased that I replaced the philips screws on my carbs float bowls many years ago. No problem to remove the 4 screws holding each bowl when changing pilot jets or adjust floats with carbs mounted on engine.
I have removed and assembled the bowls 10 times the last 2 months. 8 pilot changes and 2 float adjustments.

I agree, and that will be my course of action. I was just saying the P.O. was cheap to a point that I can't understand.
