I need info on this prototype 750
« on: February 02, 2014, 07:10:37 PM »
Alright so the current prototype 750 on ebay has everyone in a frenzy and in doing more research I found this picture again which I had seen before a few times.

Basically from what I learned this is a pre production model disguised as a 450 in order to test ride it from LA to Las Vegas. (or at least a replica of one?)

I'm trying to figure out the differences between this bike and a regular 750 because somewhere in the future I would like to make a replica of it. This is the list I got so far

cb450 k1 tank
cb450 k1 rear fender
cb750 k0 sidecover
cb450 k? front end (maybe? drum or disk, do research.could use CL front) Iv'e seen pictures of both a disk and drum version.
cb750 k0 ducktail seat
cb750 prototype badges(how? possible?)
cb750 sandcast type airbox
cb750 controls
cb750 sandcast oil filter type.

anyone with anything to add please let me know.
Cb 750 k3
Cb 450 dohc k4

I watched a tank medallion on e-bay thinking I would be able to snipe it for a reasonable price.

It went up to about $70 in the last minute, I'm sure it cost all that with shipping.

Didn't they paint some to look like kawasakis?

Looks like a stock K0 sidecover with a different emblem. That would be a fun bike to have. It would really shake up the ones that would recognize it and confuse the rest.
I think the early 450's had drum brakes, I'd swap the entire front end. A lot of 450 parts were the same as 750 already.

No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

They kept the dual leading edge drums and 19" front rims on the cl450 through the entire run, my '74 has a drum.  CB's got the discs at some point.

That sidecover emblem is shown in an early ad...probably on  the auction bike.
