Help sought for sickness
« on: January 31, 2014, 02:26:28 PM »
My bike collection is now at 7 restored vehicles.

There will be more to come as I am afflicted deeply.

My wife questions when I'm going to sell some but feel they are my children.

How can one part with ones children when they don't want to leave and can't fend for themselves?

I see others in here with large "families" and seek advice...

Paul

There is no cure! Tell the wife you're building the collection which will be part of your estate should you pass before her. You're doing it all for her! What a nice guy you are!  Cliff.

I know, my problem is 4 750 Hondas, a 40 chevy, a 69 firebird and a 7 second dragster. Only the dragster is 100% finished but it eats all the others money. Wife and daughter want to race so that one keeps going. The solution is to sell the sandcast, but I dowanna, waaah.

That's a big 10-4 Stev-o! I've got 4 bikes and don't want to sell any of them. I know I can't afford or have room for anymore right now, but always fine myself window shopping though :-\

I have found being a cheap perfectionist slows down the progression of the disease.

Relief from the nagging pain about proving value thru market acceptability, involves crystallized carbon and rare malleable metals.

Already have put wife's car in a carport...which is now also filled with"perfectly good" bits and frames and stuff...

Tried to hide it all under a tarp but there's no fooling her!

A feel my brother may have caught the disease from me as he has just picked up a second orphan in need if love!

Should I be concerned!

Damb, realestate is a premium out there in that place. Is it easy enough to just hide that sh8 under a sheet of tin like here or do you rent  in a razor wire lot with cameras or are they in your garage?

it never rains in Southern California, but...how do you keep so many bikes dry from the dew rolling up like at Laguna?

In Australia?  That 350 on your avatar is beautiful, just like she is. Both  rare find. You could no more get rid of it than her!

Never did the wife thing myself, and prolly asking was a  faux-pox (spell checked that one).

Wonderful to hear you've settled yourself, even better that the bikes are a common interest, you've been blessed with a 1%'er as far as girls, perhaps.

But most  girls want money, not bikes.

I think that I was recently targeted for an intervention by some of my wife's friends.  There's been Emails with bikes that recently sold at auction for high dollars...Yeah, they were all early Harleys, but to them they are all the same.  Then, there's always one of the husbands " Say Rich, are ya gonna keep all those bikes?" .       Uh huh , that's why they're my wife's friends.
Then last night,  my wife with a supporting GF asks me if those Hondas are worth selling now?
Answer: Are you kidding? JMJ, they aren't even 50 years old yet, that's when the prices skyrocket you know! I'd loose my a$$ if I sold  em now!
That should hold them for a while, I hope.
You know it just isn't fair, everyone is addicted to something and some things are allot worse than motorcycles. Why are we singled out? What,  are we supposed to feel ashamed about it or something?
I think the question for them really is "Tell me Dear, What do you think is missing in your life, you know, the thing that would make you feel fulfilled ?" , "No really, I want to help you find it". so you can stop riding my a$$ about something that's not going to change.... like that but maybe softer...I'll try it out this weekend to see if it flushes.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
