Gasket set.
« on: February 14, 2014, 12:32:34 PM »
When you pay extra for the gasket AND seal kit should you expect to get all of the O rings too? I'm missing the case o ring around the oil passage tube, the 3 oil pump O rings, 2 for the oil lines and the little one for the shifter bearing cover.

Thanks for listening, I feel better now. And yes I bought one of the H-F O ring kits and it didn't help. A guy at an industrial supply house saw me coming and got $12 for one 3x18mm high temperature special o ring he has in stock for Alcoa aluminum. At least the cases are back together, I'll just trust the rest of them. Or buy 6 new oil filters to get the o rings out of them.

That's rotten luck. I would expect all those o rings to be in there. Care to 'name and shame' so others don't fall into the same trap?

In all fairness, I didn't call them to complain so I have no right to post their name.

I hear ya, I just put the cases together on mine and got stalled because of lack of o-rings in the gasket set.

I had the same problem with an allen bolt set. What can you do?
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

My Harbor freight pack has o-rings that work for the oil pump, regular nitrile pack had them. The case o-ring is a special size though unfortunately.

Some of the "less" crucial o*rings I just use a very close size that has a similar squish ratio. Of course you can't make magic happen with totally wrong sizes but close may be satisfactory

My cheap trick for Viton o-rings is to buy Mobil 1 oil filters and use the o-ring for things like the oil pump, works awesome. Filter is usually 5$ when bought in 3 packs off amazon

Last early top end I did, I just went to the hardware store and bought the o-rings I needed- I think it was a whole 4 dollars for doubles of everything.  Bought just a head gasket and pucks, pretty easy that way.

Maybe there's no difference between them, but I find the fit of the HF o-rings to be a bit off compared to the whole sizes my local hardware store sells.

They HF ones usually aren't a square size, like 6x2, it would be 5.9x1.9. Not sure why but that's what they include

Just so everyone knows, Napa auto parts http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/O-Ring-Universal-Buna-N-Nitrile/_/R-BK_7272601_0006394118 carries the 4x2mm o rings for under the oil passage well as the 11x2.5mm Oring http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/O-Ring-Universal-Buna-N-Nitrile/_/R-BK_7272608_0361090061 for oil passages between the jugs case and valve cover.

also amazon industrial http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dindustrial&field-keywords=o+ring carries a very large variety of o rings.

Good deal, I wasn't so lucky at my hardware stores, my  NAPA didn't stock anything usefull, it's good to know they are available online. I did find these sizes in Denver at a seal supply house. I'm just impatient and hoped to find them easily and quickly.

Maybe one of us should sell o ring sets not me, I pay $15 for one. I'd loose money.
