Main shaft and primary sprocket bearings, how to remove?
« on: February 16, 2014, 07:08:55 PM »
So my project has stalled at this step for a while now. Hours of searching has lead to nothing, and looking through the FAQs, this same question has been asked but without a reply there. I know a few members here have successfully changed these out but I haven't been able to get a hold of any of them as time's flying. So starting this new thread, can anyone guide me how to or point me to a specific tool to use to get this bearing out?

I'm stuck because the clutch basket refuses to come off even after trying to tap it off the sprockets. When I manage to get the basket off, what kinda puller would I need to get the bearing off, seeing that traditional gear pullers will not work because of the hollow center?

I've read that the other two bearings on the main shaft should "drive out" with a hammer, but I'm trying to avoid that until it becomes the last resort.

As for why I want to do this? I spent a lot of time hunting down bargain SKFs, then some more time finding a shop that would agree to widen the grooves on the said SKFs without breaking my bank, and I have no idea how many miles already on the bike. The last thing I want is to put it back together and find out there is a noisy whining bearing that I could have replaced.

Any help is appreciated.
