lost key for my barnfind cb500
« on: January 25, 2014, 12:07:11 PM »
I have gotten my bike out and in my shop. there are no keys. The local Honda shop told me to pull the  ignition and look for a number. He said he "might" be able to help. Does the average locksmith cut motorcycle keys? Any tips or tricks?........Tim

I got a key cut from a local guy.
If you need ignition before then, jump the lighting fuse to the main fuse and turn the lights on.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

This only works on the 3 fuse model CB550, the 500 used a single fuse for everything.

I went through the key thing on my 750 but at $20 for a new switch with 2 keys, I just replaced the switch on the 550 project.

Finding the number on the ignition switch will be the difference between buying a set of keys for $10 or having a locksmith cut one for you for $100.

+++++  All of the locks were originally set up to be opened with the same key. Your ignition lock, seat latch lock and fork lock should all be the same, so check all for a number. If you replace the lock with aftermarket you'll need to carry two keys for the bike...
