Topic: 1967 Sears cycles

Ran across an old 1967 Sears catalog and found the cycle section. The first pic shows a 106cc and 50cc. The 2nd pic shows a 250cc and 125cc. The 50cc ad says "get up to 104 MPG." Neat color ads for back in the day...

That's pretty crummy mileage for a 50cc - contemporary Hondas of the same size got double that almost (still do).

That said, I knew a fellow with a 250 Sears back then - had a weird one spark plug for two cylinders deal, as I recall. A real slug, too........

Back in the day Sears was the deal and they sold everything. Remember as a little kid always getting the wish catalog from Sears and picking out what we wanted Santa to bring my sister and me for Christmas. I think they even sold some type of small car at one time. When I had my Honda CT70 me and a few on my buddies were riding at a rock quarry that was behind my house and some guy had to be at least 16 because he had tags on this rough looking bike that had Allstate on the side and smoked like you wouldn't believe and said his Dad had bought it at Sears and Roebucks. Johnie it looked like the 3rd bike in the catalog $579 and it had the round housing on the side just like the pic does. Is that a air filter or some type of secondary breather?

rebuild done all with tool kit, other than the bores of course haha. Even cut my own gaskets.

Hey Johin - do they show one with pedals?

This Allstate, sold by Sears, was my first bike that my Dad bought me. Believe it was made by Puch, 2 speed, ran great, 42 mph downhill!

Not showing any with pedals Stev-o. They do show a 59.6cc scrambler for $299 and a Sassy Scooter for the girls for $349. I was not aware Sears / Allstate sold a few models of cycles.

ok, thanks. Maybe it was discontinued by '67?  Saw one on ebay recently, good running cond, sold for $1400. Considered it, but what would I do with it??

those puch ms 50  are made both pedal/kick the 2  hand shift gear engines can be thanged to both..the 3 gear food gear are only kick

mine vas a 3 gear..
puch vas sold to piaggio in late 80"..

Do both pistons fire one after the other? What are the twin tank caps for?

Mine was a two speed, the left hand grip rotated to shift...

Back in the day, most of the big department stores sold motorcycles, including Montgomery Wards, Sears, Western Auto, etc.

Tango...very nice. I bet you do not see many or any of those around anymore. How does that ride differ from your others...

well its a two stroke, but the ride is about like the dream but a little more stiff.   great run around town bike.

The pistons move up and down at the same time, both share the same head area.  two spark plugs.  they fire at the same time.
The double caps?  one is for two stroke oil and the other for gas.

My cousin has got a couple of those Puch "Twingles" in his garage in bits, he bought them for beer money from one of his oil rig co-workers, I might buy them and turn them into sweeeet Cafe Racers! (or maybe not........)

the idea of 2 pistons follov almost parelel on one krank..are that intake port are kontrolet of one piston and exhost port are kontrol the other..it give perfekt port timing....but a bigger kompresion champer loose more heat=fuel vaste..and higher build kost..hk/cc
but they run fine..many puch"s in europa vas light blue color

I had the lower one on the second page( Puch 125), went over a blind jump and landed in a ditch on the other side, would up in the hospital with a hole in my leg,  lucky not to have been court-martialed as I was home on leave from the Air Force but was able to make it back on time. It was a good, reliable bike btw....Larry
