Talk about delusions of grandeur. Do you think if it really is a deal that it would possibly be still there in 3 weeks. ;D

Powderman has a good point, I sent my seller a small deposit after calling the guy.  Some might call me stupid as I haven't seen it yet, but the deal was too good to pass up & I was worried he'd sell it.  If Its crap,  it's not the end of the world, figure I could probably part it out & make a few $.

its a cb500 for 1500, it looks super clean in the pics and its in iowa in the dead of winter so i can see why it might not have sold. It may have a ton of miles on it or no title but i can ask for more details later and ask for a video

Well, for that money, I would want to cast my eyeballs over it in person.  I agree, find out more info, pics of inside of tank & title are critical.

If you find a bike online & are interested, I think we can find a local & willing member to help you check it out.  Been done before on here :)

$1500 for a cb500 doesn't seem like that much of a deal. It's a little below the overinflated and bloated retail price they currently sell for. Have you factored in the cost of picking it up? fuel ain't cheap, you could easily spend a couple hundred in gas food and lodging to go get it and then it's up to $1800 in cost and that feels more like a retail price.

yeah i factored in about an extra 200 for travel. I know they should be selling for that much but where I live in this part of the country you cant even hardly find a 500 or 550 which is the perfect size in my mind. I also like the older ones with the tank cap instead of the newer ones. The biggest cities closer to me like atlanta and nashville that bike would be selling for like 3000k. Prices are ridiculous these days

People would be asking more like $2K-$2500 at most in those cities (I have family in nashville so I check CL there often), but that doesn't mean that is what they sell for. It's an old bike in a private sale, nobody pays the asking price - you just have to know how to negotiate and also know what you are looking at.

$1500 may seem like an underinflated price but if the bike has a lot of hidden issues and it costs you $2K to fix them, then who saved any money? I don't buy bikes off ebay for specifically this reason.

Not trying to talk you out of this, but just want to make sure all the bases are covered. Seen too many people burned in long distance transactions.

Do you understand the irony of that statement? It's the distance not the method that makes the most difference. Ebay is global, CL is local unless you use one of those Ad Hunter kind of sites that searches all of craigslist everywhere which is seems like you are doing.

At least with ebay there is a, albeit messy and complicated, shadow of consumer protection. CL? well that's like sticking your member through the glory hole at an unfamilar truck stop, maybe you'll get something good, maybe you'll get a punch in the groin, maybe you'll get herpes.

budget for any potential issues that will come up. 500s have weak clutches so figure a new clutch might be in store and try to get the seller down by 1/2 the cost of it as part of the gamble (again they might say no).

$1500 might be a good price, but if it were me just for the hassle I would want it to be closer to $1200 or $1000 (which the seller might not take).

Sometimes buying an old bike is all about patience. In the old days before computers you just had to hope and wait till an ad came up in the local paper and then you paid what it took to get the vehicle. now you can search and find deals all over the country but is it the right deal for you at that moment? only you can know that.

I saw the ad, the bike looks good, not a bad deal at $1500. Too bad it has a cheap aftermarket exhaust, looks all original 'cept for that.

You'd be wrong if you think it won't sell 'cause it's winter. That's my favorite time to buy!
