836 kit and noise from camchain tensioner.....
« on: February 01, 2014, 11:12:57 AM »
hi ! it's a lot of time that i can't follow you........ (too work......)

anyway i have an answer for you... i hope you can help me to solve the problem...

i have an 836 kit on my 750 k2, i changed the camchain with new one when i rebuild the engine.

for 3K everything ok.... now there is a noise coming from the camchain tensioner......
with the engine off by turning the shaft by points side i feel as if the chain were to stop, then immediately did a shot .....the movement is not fluid at all, every 1/4 turn you hear a tock ...

could someone tell me what can be had?

if i decide to open , the reinforced camchain (tsubaki or did)  can work with the stock tensioner and it's roller or it could create problem ?

the engine is 836 stock.... I see, however, is quite weak, I would like to raise a little 'the compression ratio by lowering the head ....
considering that is in the original configuration and the floor was just redone can i lower the head about 0.3 - 0.4 mm?

thanks everyone

have you readjusted the chain tension?  Sounds like a loose chain to me.

You say all stock.........except for the 836 pistons.  Your problem could be a worn adjuster roller...........look at other post on this page.

First.........take a look at www.cyclex.com for his new cam-chain tensioner.

Second......add a moderate performance cam such as from an F2 model or a Web 41a.............no heavy duty springs required.

Check your valve clearance to piston............and consider a thinner head-gasket available from Cycle-X.

Tell us what brand of pistons............

yes i put off the tensioner, i put back the spring and then i inser it in the cylinder block and i loose the spring.....

it seems to work but there is a noise , i feel che chain that doesn't run smoothly..... as the chain moves out of the guide.....

for the piston ... i used piston from cruzimage on ebay....
i prefer to use stock camshaft.... i don't know if the piston height is the same of the stock one (i didn't check :( ) anyway  i don't feel any improvement from stock bore..... for this reason i think that probably i have a lower compression (could depend also by the head gasket) ??

I have seen the cam chain installed around the tensioner incorrectly. Be sure it was installed correctly.

Did you adjust the spring tension with the pistons in the correct position?

Your 836 will have at least 1 full point higher compression than stock. 10.25/10.5:1 vs 9:1 stock.

Your "English" works fine  :) just as long as you can determine what we are trying to say.

Make sure you fit the tensioner around the cam chain correctly. I can not paint that picture for you in words. Which manual are you using? What page numbers? I have 4 different manuals and perhaps I can reference mine if it is the same?

honda manual...

put the point cover to t 1-4 when cylinder 1 and 4 have valve free .... so rotate clockwise about 15° the crank  and loose the tensioner.... should be the correct procedure....

when i check the tensioner and reinstalled it i didn't feel any improvement.... the noise is always here....
the chain seems run in tears

if i have to open the reinforced camchain woks fine with new honda roller or it's better to use cyclex roller ?

a friend says that this kind of camchain is not good for the original honda roller because it will be damaged.
he says  for the original honda system is better use a 8 chain , for this reason i ask you info.....

if i can tomorrow i try to make a video of the problem.....

My user service manual that followed my CB750-k6 (covered for the older bikes too) said that the cam chain should adjust automatically on idle when loosen the screw.... Sooo wrong. I did that once, horrible sound.

I got another description from a friend that worked well. (Engine switched off)
Loosen the nut and screw, put a pin nail, screwdriver into the hole of tensioner and press it there, kicked  the engine in small steps and noticed when the pin was in the deepest position. Locked the screw with nut here.
