Topic: Installing 750k2 Jugs - Tips?

Im trying to install my 750k2 jugs, do I need a ring compressor? Any tips or tricks to make this easier? I was just attempting to dry fit using a soda can and hose clamp to compress the rings and thats not workin... what yah go people?

There's a good chance it's possible to use your fingertips. I've seen it done on youtube and it seems pretty straight forward. Might need an extra set of hands, and/or their adjacent fingertips.
My jug's going back on next week, so we're about in the same boat here.

Lots of oil. And that tin can would work slice it down the side so it will allow it to compress evenly

Use your fingers to get the rings in. Take your time as it can be frustrating if your impatient. You can do it yourself, just keep it cool.

Even though that guide is a different length, it should be fine. I did it on mine without issue.

Make sure all surfaces are clean, flat & dry. I think using copper coat is a good idea, but its up to you.

Make sure you dont leave anything out during assembly steps, like o-rings, dowls, or it'll have to come back off.

That's the video that made me realize I didn't need a compressor. I'll be using copper spray. Ill triple check clean dry flat. Thanks man.

I used hose clamps as ring compressors, you need to sand them on inside to help them slide but they work.

Of course i practised on one piston one ring first.

I really don't like the idea of using hose clamps. Seems like it would be far too easy to scratch/gouge up your piston skirts.

Use your finger nails or use wooden popsicle sticks as I did  ... Use some oil in the cylinders and on the rings and skirts. I've read some posts about not using oil on fresh rings/bores for break in purposes but it makes them very tough to get started in the bore. (Ask me how I know ... ended up snagging a ring and gouging a bore my first go at it    )

Having a friend also helps but it can be done on your own. Just go slow and keep checking to make sure everything is going in evenly side to side and front to back. Just keep tapping with the palm of your hand on top of the jugs ... should be no need for mallets.

Hondaman uses hose clamps in his book, but they have to be made smooth first.

It worked for me and this was my first 4 stroke motorcycle engine.  On that old CZ 2 stroke I had ring compressor made from sheet metal - it was my dad's  - but there was more space somehow or maybe it went from the top?  Not sure now.

The pop sticks are a good idea. Use oil & work evenly as he mentions.

If you sense any form of ring snagging (at all), stop immediately or you will break something & require a replacement. The thin oil control retainer rings are easy to snag too. (Yes, i snagged one of these & it caused me grief).

Just get each ring past each jugs taper one at a time and lightly tap. Patience is the key word.

Finger tips, a couple of small blocks of wood, engine in gear and a helpful mate are the key ingredients to a simple job.
I have done it many times by myself but an extra set of hands makes life much easier.
