Repairing rubber carb diaphragms

I might have to do this on the cheap soon. Several bikes use rubber diaphragms on their CV carbs, and they tend to develop holes & cracks over time. Is there a way to fix said holes & cracks using silicone or something?

Note: I'll technically only need 'em to work for 24 hours.

I tried it before using inner tube patch kit.  It worked for about 20 miles...guys claim to have done it before using Gorilla Glue.  I think there might be some good info over at HondaTwins.net.

no permanent fix that I've seen.  there was a Canadian supplier offering just the diaphragm for sale(for the cb350)...Larry

I've repaired minor cracks with a thin smear of silicon, but it won't last. And it changes the "response" of the diaphragm.

Sirius (I think) sells replacement diaphragms - reports indicate the installation can be a pain, but that they work ok..........

I think they are pretty well used  ;) You Canadian guys are beasts.....

Just don't try to UPS them either as customs is a PITA.

Customs??????????????   I spent over two hours at a border crossing back in the 70s trying to get back into the USA in Smoot, Montana.  The guards could not believe we didn't have any drugs so the tore apart everything we had, had it strewn all over the tables then told us it was alright to go.  I was not a happy camper....Larry

I had the same experience trying to cross at Regway. I'd checked the bike's oil level before leaving Wakaw that morning and made the mistake of keeping the paper towel that I'd wiped the stick on in my pocket. 5 hours later the U.S.border guards searched me and found it. For that heinous crime I was detained for 2 hours, hands hovering near holsters most of the time.

The paper towel with oil on it was a bomb or maybe a torch?   I forgot to mention that we were the only car stopped during the two hour period, but the guards did stop a stake body truck loaded with huge canisters labelled bull semen.  They did pull the guy over and open one to make sure it really was bull semen inside.  So Canadians sell bull semen to the US?...Larry
