Real quick need advice in buying a welder
« on: February 07, 2014, 05:42:13 PM »
Have a chance to get an Eastwood 135 mig hardly used for 225 or 200 without the bottle. Should I get it or not? Don't plan on doing anything major with it just bike work

Yeah I read that but then read some bad personal reviews. It could be from people who only want the big 3 brands but I don't know. I have a stick lincoln and welded sheet metal pretty damn good with 6013 but I'd like the mig for neater welds on the frame

I really dig my Hobart handler. Either voltage should be fine.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

Cannot go wrong with a Lincoln.
Hobart comes in second.

Somebody has to make it for Eastwood. Looks like the  Lincoln I have - except the collar.

You said with bottle, does it mean it comes with gas gun? The gas conversion for Lincoln is $120 or so and welding with gas is different level than flux.

If your planning on just using flux wire then I can't see you going wrong at that price. Eastwood gets decent reviews at the time I was in the market for a welder.

Ended up with a lincoln since I wanted to weld with gas and it came with the conversion.

Flux vs mig, there's no comparison. So much easier to learn with gas.

No it comes with gas gun, it just doesn't come with the gas tank, so it's mig ready all I need to do is rent a tank

135 is plenty for a hobby machine, I have a Linclon 135 and it welds anything I need. As for Eastwood, I have their 200 Tig and even the welder at work was impressed with it, like really impressed. I have bought a few Eastwood products and have nothing but good things to say.

You said with bottle, does it mean it comes with gas gun? The gas conversion for Lincoln is $120 or so and welding with gas is different level than flux.

FCAW or GMAW both have the same strength.
With FCAW you can use it outdoors in the wind.
With GMAW it needs to be inside of a shop out of the wind.
The FCAW is in no way inferior.
The FCAW has a light slag left behind that can be easily wire brushed off
with very little effort.

Usually you do not get the gas bottle because it goes back to the rental welding supply company and then you rent your own tank in the town you live in.
Sometimes the tank IS owned by the owner of the welding machine but the welding supply could reject filling the tank for the new owner until it is tested. That is a DOT rule.

I have a 135. I have used it on the sheet metal work on my MGB. Good variability of both voltage and wire speed compared to what that kind of money will buy from anyone else.

I'll go out on a limb Dave. You rescued it out of a bin then used it to make your trailer after teaching yourself how to weld.?

Actually, there has been some misunderstanding I was searching welding and saw this so commented on it and my first language is not English. So, I struggle with it.
