Well, I've been looking at pictures, researching tube bending, stainless welding etc. and am beginning to modify my goal. For the moment anyway, I've abandoned stainless steel because of the intricacies involved. The current plan is to fab the whole thing from mild steel and ceramic coat the thing. Probably rattle can paint 'til I'm sure it sounds and functions correctly. I might try building a bender - not sure. To really imitate the original pipes will take probably 2 diameters of bend. Out from the head is a sharp 90 followed by a long bend which has compound bends in it - different on each pipe to avoid whatever's in the way. The mufflers, I think, won't be strictly reverse cone after all. The Originals are long and really don't have much, if any, taper to them. I might use tubing or might fab some loooong tapers. The backs of the mufflers have some flats and indents which might be tricky and I don't know how to mount up the glass-packed, perforated tube. I think it gets welded at the back and floats at the front - not sure. I'd like that thing to look good as it emerges from the muffler and be removable for repacking and/or modification. Not sure how to do that either. But still researching and rethinking. Using mild steel will make everything a lot easier to make and adjust. So far I haven't been able to find any 16 gauge 1 3/8" tubing though, which is the size of the OEM pipe and what I'll need to use the original flanges.
