Stock 550 front fender clearance
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:01:52 PM »
Anyone know the clearance of the stock front fender on a 550 between the forks? Replacing the front wheel with an 18". Wanting to trim down mine to fit the new tire setup.

I know different tires will change measurements but my original tire is long gone...

100/90x19 tyre.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

I am curious how you plan on modifying the fender? I was going to do this on my 750 that has an 18" front and couldn't see a way to do it.

Looks like you would have to do away with the factory brace.

Am I wrong but if you lay a stock fender on a 18 wheel isn't there going to be a large gap fore and aft?

Haven't worked it out completely yet but I have a few thoughts...

1. Chop the side brace down and re-weld. (possible strength issues)
2. Cut the brace at the first bend. Use it to model a new side piece that is about 1 1/4" shorter, cnc them out, and weld back on. (possible strength issues)
3. Pop the rivets and model the whole brace about an 1 1/4" shorter and then reattach to the fender.

If it works good, it looks good...

Hey BrandEn, any particular reason you didn't go with fenders from Metal 7 West or Motolanna?
