if i gut a gl1000 front end, do i have to use a gl top clamp or is the spacing and diameter the same as the 550?

I believe both the spread and offset of the GL are different than the 550. This makes room for the double disc and speedo gears. An easy test would be to measure/compare front axles. The offset is only a handling issue, but the axle length will dictate the spread/fitment in the stock 550 trees. Both sets of forks are 35mm to my knowledge, so no issue there.

GL1000 forks are 37mm.

If you choose to do goldwing you gotta swap the front end over, not just the tubes because the forks are 37mm. You can press the smaller stem in to it, maybe just a bearing swap? Allballz has a chart where you can check bearing swap stuff

No need for a bearing swap, BUT you will need a shorter steering stem.  You can either press the smaller 550 stem into the bottom triple tree and weld it OR you could have the GL1000 triple tree machined (cut down and rethreaded) the length of the 550 -- probably a better solution.

looks like cycle x gets them back in stock in a week so ill just get some new ones.

-Progressive 14" rear shocks

CYCLE X WASN'T KIDDING WHEN THEY ADVERTISED WORLDS WORST WEBSITE. EMAILED THEM AT THE END OF LAST MONTH ABOUT FORK TUBES AND HE GAVE ME AN ETA OF A WEEK. 2 WEEKS GOES BY AND I EMAIL THEM AGAIN BECAUSE THEY STILL SHOW OUT OF STOCK. NO REPLY. EMAILED THEM AGAIN MONDAY. STILL NO REPLY. BIKE SHOW IS COMING IN 2 WEEKS AND IM GROWING IMPATIENT
