Fork Tube Compatability
« on: February 13, 2014, 06:44:52 PM »
I have been working on getting forks cleaned up and rebuilt and noticed the fork stauntions I have are different than what came out, and no I did buy the wrong ones they came with the bike and the idiot PO (that is now his formal name as far as I am concerned) bought the wrong ones.

The forks on the bike where 69-72 which is actually the only thing so far that I have found on the bike that is 72. The stauntions are from 73-76. I am assuming these wont fit but I thought I would ask as sometimes someone out there knows about a $2 part that allows things to be swapped, hoping to be luck on this one.

If yes, I believe they changed for the K2 model.

No sorry, fork tube, the terminology seems to vary from country to country on some of these parts and its driving me crazy. the fork lowers or cases seem to be the later model but the internals are the earlier but the diagram on CMS is not that clear. I am thinking I am up for more money.

In Oz & UK stauntion/stantion is the top tube "Pipe comp, Fr Fork" - Honda p/list. The lower one is the lower tube or slider or case. Confusing, yes?

I've a similar, if not the same question. I have a pair of K2 pipes, can I fit them over to F2 cases? The F2 pipes are pretty rusty.

Krusty, I have a sugestion. I will try to find out if my stauntions will fit the F2 as it sounds like yours will fit mine and then we might be able to trade.

Have dismantled your forks yet? Photos and measurements might be the best way to check.

I use the terms "tubes" and "bottoms", hard to get confused then.   ;) It's spelt stanchion btw.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

In the same vein as this thread... The F2 front end fork tubes have the same part number as the '77-78K. My question is, is that just because of the longer tubes and, then, will the shorter '73-76K tubes fit the F2 lowers? Thanks! RR

I haven't dismantled the F2 forks yet and it could be quite a while before I get to that stage. I have a K series fork set, stanchions and lowers, which I've been hanging on to just in case a K bike came along. So, for the moment, I'm just contemplating options.
