First Bike, big/small project.
« on: February 14, 2014, 08:35:05 PM »
Well i finally found my bike.
Its a 1975 CB400F, in very much a project state. Its been in storage at his friends place. I got a good look at it today and even though it was in "storage" it was outside and not totally protected so not in the condition the photo shows. Its dirty all over and many of the bolts and fasteners are showing surface rust. The tank is clean but i did see a couple little tiny spots of rust after i searched around with a flashlight and smells good. Tires are new but 2 years new, battery was dead and it doesn't have kick starter so didn't get a to turn the bike over but "Ran when i was parked". The exhaust is rusted through at a couple spots so that will be the first replacement. Front forks are shot and rear shocks are original and springs are the same and have a good bit of flaking. The tank is straight needs repaint, the little fiberglass side covers are both cracked and need replaced.
Its being sold with lots of extra parts and a GSXR-1000 front end for a front end swap (would love to have any info on this if anyone has some)
Most of the original parts are available to take back to stock or near there.
The electrics will most likely need redone with the current cafe build.
The frame is straight but needs cleaned and most likely stripped and powder coated.

So what i am looking at is an off the cuff idea if this is a good deal for 700? Im thinking starting at 500 since i couldnt hear it run.

Try shifting it into 6th gear and pushing it on pavement. This will let you know if the engine is free. Its hard tell what's going on there without see it. They can be found for around 1200 up and running so I'd say start at 500 and see how it goes.  Good luck !

Not a bad price especially for an Island bike.  Gotta ditch the Maltese Cross brake light.
