Spark; No Spark
« on: September 10, 2006, 09:38:04 AM »
My 75 CB750F now has spark on all 4 wires. This is good. Trouble is I don't think the spark is hitting when it is suppost to. I will not have a manual until Wednesday so does anyone have the time to explain the static set up for the timing. (I can't do dynamic because she won't run yet.)

I see there are several sets of marks behind the points plate but I am not sure of the relationship of the T or the F. Is one for TDC? Should the points be opening at the F? How many degrees BTDC should I be firing?

I see three screws that I can move the points plate but I'd rather not go fishing for a solution because I may just get the timing more out of whack.

I do have a degree wheel If that will serve me.

Any help is appreciated.

Set the points at .014 when fully open.
turn the egine clockwise till the F mark for cylinders 1 and 4 lines up with the static mark and adjust the main back plate until the 1/4 points are just opening.
turnthe engine forward till the F mark for cylinders 2 and 3 lines up with the static mark and adjust the sub plate till the 2/3 points are just opening.
The timing is now set. Occasionally it may not be possible toget enough range of movement cause you are at the end of the adjustment slots. In this case minute changes in the points gap can help get the correct setting.
