Cb 400t any experience
« on: February 17, 2014, 07:07:41 AM »
I've been looking for cb 550 but I came across a 1978 cb400t and I wanted to know if it's easy to get parts for this model and the reliability of these bikes or any reviews from any past owners. Thanks
The bike is in great condition as of now.

My wife rides one, have had it for a couple years. Good little bike around town but under powered on the highway. Parts are easy to find, most everything is still available from Honda, with the exception of carb to motor rubber boots iirc. Go with a Honda 4 if you want to do any real highway riding, if its mostly around town riding a smaller twin is good. It's light and fairly nimble.

Thanks for the info - at what speed would you say that it becomes uncomfortable?

The Hawk?  It was my vote for worst paint scheme ever in another thread here.   :D  But jokes aside, the CDI box was an issue on those bikes (and expensive).

Davo, it'll do 115kms on the highway but its going balls out. Maybe 120kms downhill, lol. It'll do it highway jumping around town no problem, it's just real hard on the little twin on long distances. The real problem on the highway is if someone tries to cut you off or you need to pass someone there's just nothing left in the old bike, your throttle is already wide open. Inline 4 is the way to go, the 400f is night and day different. Plus the F has a 6 speed, the T is a 5 speed.

@davo, yeah no worries. You'll be happier on a 4, better in the long run anyways.

@sean once you strip a bunch of the stock crap off them and streamline em they look alright, my wife's was already re painted which helped it a lot lol. Pretty fugly in stock trim though.
