750 trike update
« on: February 17, 2014, 07:29:56 pm »
For those of you who keeping up with My trike project. Today I put in a real short test / break-in ride, I do mean short, cold snot sliding over your cheek and slapping your face kinda puts a damper on fun, its still winter up here in the PNW.  Anyway trike has new top end (stock, no big stuff). elect inig, reverse, steering trim mech, mech Tach (thanks to Scottl for the gears) and some minor tweeks.  Still need to change the steering trim as it is too hard for me to adjust on the fly and won't stay put. also need to go back to lighter throttle spring as it is kind of stiff for me.   The motor runs strong compared to 1977 version.  Pulls hard from about 3500 up to 5000 anyway but didn't want to push issue with new rings and valves, love the sound when it gets up there 4 g or so.  One issue also is we lost the "drive" light indicator, think the issue is in switch as it showes neutral when in drive.  Other than that and maby get someone with a "real" vacume carb balance set to do carbs correct, it run super.  Come on spring, this 30 degree stuff is getting old.

The rear end of my 4 year old Matic-trike is almost completed.
Carbs and lights still need some work.
The engine stock except 811 ccm jugs.
Perhaps a electric reverse during this winter-season.
No hurry as long as I still have my Matic-Vetter sidecar.
Raining water and +3°C warm here on the southcoast in Finland. :(

Here`s a few pics from 2012-2014. Rear axle is from a european Ford Escort MK1 1969. Left side shortened 170 mm. Clutch main cylinder operating rear brake and bike´s rear brake operating the parking brake on the axle. As a bonus the Matic´s own parkingbrake system is still working.

This one is proto. Production 1 and 2  :-)  will be with discbrakes and a stronger rear swing. Front modified telescopes or swing.
We are 2 disabled old farts having fun motorbiking. :-)  :-)

At this stage today.
Front brake wont work.
No smoke from the exhaust, yet. :'(

Right master cylinder front brake, left master cylinder rear brake and parking brake on the foot pedal.
GL1200 clutch master cylinder as rear brake master cylinder. I think it will work good enough.

Any luck identifying the cause? I'm facing that same issue.
Thanks

I know this is an old topic, but not too many Hondamatic trikes around that I can find.  Your tires/rims don't look to be any lighter or heavier than mine, do you have any issues with speed because of the added weight?  Ours is new to us but I can only get to about 50 mph in Drive.  And at 50 it sounds like the engine is maxed out.  Thanks in advance...
