Good afternoon all,

I am in the process of rebuilding my '72 750 and just found this forum.  Nice to find the resource.  All the pictures I see so far are of bikes that are in "stock" condition.  Will I offend anyone since my bike is set up as a cruiser?  (Fairing, saddlebags, tail trunk, etc.)  I bought my bike when I was in the US Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base, California, in 1972.  I rode it for many years, moving around the country as a telecom corporate gypsy.  I took the bike apart for an engine rebuild in 1987 in Dallas, TX and had the work done by a Honda expert that had his own speed shop.  With a growing family (5 kids) I ran out of money and after he finished the work on the engine he crated it up and I have hauled that crate around the country as well as half a dozen boxes of parts since then.  Most of the kids are gone now and we only have one vehicle between my wife and I, so now seems the right time to put the bike back in working order.  I was worried about the engine, but when I opened the crate, and spun the crank over, all worked very smoothly.  Soooooo, the project began.  I've had the frame powdercoated and am now busy cleaning, polishing, buffing all the hardware to get it back in shape.  I have found a paint guy to handle that when it comes time.

Here's an opening question if anybody can help.  While in California, the bike was modified some and the shop put on a 16" harley rim on the back.  It is a 3.5X16 rim that I have to either replace or get rechromed.  (Spokes are a whole nother problem)  Does anyone know what the maximum width rear time that can be used?  The answer to that question may affect how I handle the rear rim problem.

Thanks for all your thoughts.

Steve

welcome. There is a bike that fits every taste/style here. I THINK about the widest would be a 130 or maybe a 140 series tire. If you keep  the 16 inch wheel you might be able to go a little wider.

also the wider you go the more it will effect handling. these were not made to have a really fat tire on back. :)
