Brian's Busted Box
« on: February 19, 2014, 05:31:18 PM »
Well we pulled the box out of the old girl last night and as usual there where a few surprises.

In a previous thread I mentioned that I  ripped the dogs off third gear in our second race at PI.
We found a dog  sitting in the sump plate when we drained the oil last Wednesday as we prepared to pull the motor.

From previous experience we where expecting to find the other two dog's floating around still intact.

Well.........we found another five. :o
And sure enough, low and behold I had managed to do the same job on 2nd. :-[
For the life of me I don't remember popping 2nd gear.

So now there are two schools of thought.......................
Mine...... Just as I hit the button to change from second to third it popped second and then third.
Their's.......A combination of my Ahlzimers and a liberal dose of red mist combined and I over rev'd it off the line, popped second gear, jammed it straight into third and did the same.
I choose to go with my theory.  ;D

We will be replacing the gear box with the HD box from our A motor and then hopefully we will be able to have another couple of sets made.
One to replace the box in our A motor and maybe another couple for other's if there is any interest.

Cheers,
Brian

You're growing little dogs. We call that a puppy mill here.  ;D

Sorry Bear, it's no joke, but as Simon mentioned earlier you didn't end up in the weeds.

30 years ago, dipping dogs with demodectic mange in motor oil was a popular home remedy. Skin exposure to motor oil can cause rashes and skin destruction in severe cases. The hydrocarbons can be absorbed through the skin and cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. If motor oil is licked off the coat, it can lead to vomiting, which can lead to aspiration of motor oil into the lungs and cause pneumonia. Kidney and liver damage can result from motor oil dipping as well.

The speed trap is at the start/finish line at PI Sammy, that's about 3/4 down the main straight.
We clocked 181kmh this year which was a bit disappointing, but there was a pretty stiff head wind.
I think we clocked 192kph last year.

Cheers,
Brian

No PM , but Im interested in one, same as Keith, want particulars when you get ready. ;D Bear going to post a pic of 1100F rod, the 900's are different besides pin size. 1100F smaller around wrist pin and smoot on outer edges, no ridge line. I'll post the two later today. Thanks, Bill.....An auto might work!  8),once past 2500-3000 rpm,it'll run or outrun clutch bike!   ;D

Bill,
I will have more info on the gear sets this week.
The rods we used to use where marked MA3.
I've been thinking about the auto's for awhile but they are almost impossible to get down here.
The other issue is whether they would comply with our reg's. ie first produced before 1972?

Cheers,
Brian

Given that 2 strokes are allowed how about something different....1972 Ski Doo Blizzard 797 triple.  CVT so no tranny, just twist the throttle and go. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

There's a guy here running a more modern LC version in an F2 chassis that's very fast.
