gas in the airbox
« on: February 23, 2014, 03:22:15 PM »
There is gas collecting in my airbox. Today I went to check and replace my air filter and there was a significant amount of gas in there. I can't figure out why there would be gas leaking into there. Any ideas? Thanks.

Gas in the airbox could be: Clogged float bowl overflow tubes, leaking needle valvex, clogged plenum hose.
At the bottom of the airbox there should be a drain hose. The end of it can be squeezed to drain water/oil/gas.

It is coming from the gas tank via the carbs.

The float valves should prevent that.
The overflow tubes in each carb should prevent that.
The plenum and air box drains should prevent that.

Check your oil.  If gas is going that way, it can go toward the engine as well, leaking past piston rings and polluting/diluting the oil supply.  Bearings don't like that much.

It would help if you listed the bike model inside your post.
Also helps to know if the bike has been altered from stock configuration.  Only a few of us are clairvoyant.
