Anyone? IIRC it was to stiffen the ride for a passenger and the spacers were of course under the springs to the the a little preload, I know it's here somewhere

For the rear you use the adjuster tool or pliers if you want to trash them. There is usually five grooves, the higher the more compressed The front involves cutting a PVC spacer that fits inside the fork. Experimentation is necessary but try 1/2". Its gonna suck balls to get the fork nut back on tho

I'm looking into the rear, I've seen it done somewhere adding an extra spacer under the spring plus the factory adjust ment, maybe I was dreaming, they suit me solo riding fine but when hitting the big bàck road dips with a passenger I bottom out, I know I need to replace them but with a wedding in June thats not possible

The rear would be trickier, it would need to be the correct i.d. and o.d. I would be concerned a hard enough dip could break a pvc spacer. Wouldn't really harm anything but would probably scare you when it broke. Roads around here are bad enough to do it I bet

What about a large industrial sized washer under the top retainer. Sandwich between spring and retainer

Seem like it would still bottom out even with a spacer ??? I know money is tight so maybe just get a heavy spring for now. I got the HD (heavy duty) spring for the rear shocks for the same reason. Now the wife me and the bike are all happy. progressive series 12 they have black or chrome.

I might have read this on another forum, I really dunno at the moment as my mind is constantly running, but I do remember the gentlemen did this to the rear with a metal spacer, I was looking for his specs just to see if they would match up to what I can measure mine out to be, I have a crews to a water jet and stainless material so cutting isn't a problem.

That last sentence is basically what it was that was designed by the gentleman, I was more after the height he used

Found it over on Honda cb650 forum, thanks for the help guys!!!! It's a 7.5mm thick spacer, 45 degree angle, 50 mm wide. I can post pics if you guys are interested in understanding the mess of what I was posting later

I'm still trying to understand what this would do. Seems like it is just putting some preload on the spring (making it shorter) ? What would this do to the stroke of the shock? Just asking so I can understand that is all :) I do understand you want to keep the back from bottoming out when the wife or what ever is added correct?

From my understanding it basically adds two steps of preload, I understand it has I believe 5 now it just adds a little more spring preload to add some extra weight whether it be luggage or passenger and still prevents shock from bottoming but still let's the shock do the work. If I'm riding single I'll adjust the shock to give less preload but when she rides with me I'll max it out, seems like it worked for him and would be a cheap trick to try. Who knows after all is said and done it might not do me any good but replacing the shocks is the last thing on the list as I need this thing moving by the wedding in June because weather permitting it's what we are leaving on.

By then I have to have the tank dents pulled, tank and front fender painted, shifter seal replaced, top end gaskets replaced so I don't have oil running down my leg and finally get the top end tick on cylinder 1 intake fixed (note it is NOT exhaust leak), so far I've been limping by replacing the beat up tapped adjuster very few rides when it gets too loud. Still wondering if I have a broke valve spring, sticking valve or what? I do notice the cam is not as shiny on this so when I get it apart I'm sure I'll see but right now there is just not enough room to look in there.

Wow that is cool she is in for it. You need to hang on to her!  8)
It looks like you have a full plate before the big day good luck hope you get it all done. Later on when all the dust settles you should look in to those HD spring they really worked good for me and mine. The 12 series is great when your on a tight budget and they are built pretty good for the price. From me and I'm sure the rest of the gang here wish you and yours a long happy life together.

Thank you very much for the good wishes.

Funny thing is I graduated high school with this Beautiful lady and we both went our separate ways and had a failed marriage, after all these years we got together just by a simple Facebook message to get it all started. Her ex took her on a ride one time on a friends borrowed bike and she was scared to death to get on another bike, it took a little convincing but once I got her on the bike and showed her that I'm not going to throw her off the back riding like an idiot she was hooked, it was her idea to take off on the bike after the wedding reception, DEFINITELY a keeper.

Not only has she done that but she now hunts with me too which of course she had never done before in her 32 years, let alone ever had the desire to. Next year she will have her own gun and maybe a crossbow so she can try and kill a deer herself, which sucks cause I love her sitting with me all the time, but she has changed my life in so many ways and accepts trying things I love to do too. She bought me a muzzleloader and a crossbow this past season and has let me buy a few guns since.

All in all I have got to be the luckiest guy around and I can never be thankful enough.

Oh and reason for editing, after the wedding and everything the shocks will be upgraded, that will be the only thing left on the list and this bike is ready until some other gremlin shows up
