« on: March 05, 2014, 02:19:02 AM »
Hi all.
Just happened to get my hands on a free 1983 cb650 engine.
Wonderiing what parts I would need to get this engine to fit into my cb500?
Carbs

Look up the build Scott S did a while back doing this same thing. It should be a pretty good reference for you.

 Isn't the 1983 CB 650 a dual overhead cam?

 I used an '82 CB 650 engine.
'71 CB500 K0
'17 Triumph Street Scrambler
'81 Yamaha XS650

Yes the 83 should be a dualcam.  Shaftie too.   Way diff than the sohc.   That said some parts of the world did get the sohc 650 till 84.  A new member on the 650 site has one.

TM,
Hi . I just buzzed the ebay 83 650 parts section to get a look at the frame and see what was available.
The mounts, carbs, electrics and a couple frames are there today. But the frame looks like it is different than the 500/550 and probably will be more involved than a simple earlier year model engine swap, the shaft could make it even more interesting.
I have nothing to measure the differences between the two but you do,  from the pictures alone, it looks like a different animal to me. I haven't seen much written anywhere about this 83, as far as parts availability on ebay for the engine alone, it only shows 150pcs. and allot of those are  new aftermarket BS parts.
This should be interesting, I'll watch.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
