Cb500 Calliper Pin
« on: February 25, 2014, 10:17:02 PM »
Can someone explain how the calliper pin holds the brake on?
Also, will the calliper from a '72 500 twin fit onto a '72 cb500 Four?

Mick

the inner pad has a split pin - to retain the brake pad in the calliper's inner piece the pin is threaded through from the pad side and the ends folded over on the outside of the calliper piece.. if you didn't mean this pin you may need to post a photo of your problem

my cb500 four has a caliper I removed from a twin- looks exactly the same, fitted no problems and works fine

the split pin is an assembly aid, holds it to the back plate as you install it so it doesant fall out, they have a roll pin to stop them rotating that locates the pad,i use a dab of silicon sealant on the back to stop it vibrating in place, same on the piston side pad.

Is a 72 500 twin an Aussie thing?.  The 450 wasn't converted to 500 in the US until 1975...Larry

I can recall seeing DOHC 500 twins here(I noticed them because I owned a 450). Many, many years ago I saw one for sale for $1600 at a bike shop here in Canberra - and from memory I do think it was an earlier model than '75 ..

We didn't get them until 75-76 in the UK.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.
