Carbs Draining Gas 650
« on: April 12, 2014, 07:51:15 AM »
First of all, since this is my first post, I really appreciate you all taking the time to look at this. I'm new to bikes in general, so I'm learning as I go.

So, When I tried to start the bike shortly after I got it, it would leak gas from the drain on the leftmost carb. Eventually, the second would start draining, and then the next two. All four were just pouring gas. I removed the carb and found two of the needles were stuck, and stuff was pretty gummy. I soaked it and cleaned it all up. Everything moved freely.

The problem now is that it's still leaking from the first carb, and periodically from the second. The third and fourth are fine, now. I gently tapped it with a rubber mallet in case the float was sticking, but it didn't help.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to stop the leaking? Here's a picture of what's happening:

Bad float needles

dirty valve seats, pull float and needles to clean seat. Use a q tip with brasso then spray out with carb cleaner

float heights too high, google clear tube method to confirm height of gas in the bowl.

If that's normal then you may  cracked drain. Pull the bowl put your finger on one end of the drain and blow through the other

Alright, thanks! I'll give this all a try.

I'm pretty certain the bowls are actually overflowing, because if I put my finger over the drain, it eventually starts dripping out somewhere else. I removed some debris from the valve seat, which helped a lot initially, but it's still leaking. Time for more cleaning to make sure there's no more dirt lurking in there.

The tail pipe was full of dirt, too. The wind out here can do a number on things...

Might need to adjust float heights or replace valve needles then
