Gl1000 upside down rear caliper

I've found that Gl1000 rear calipers are relatively the same as a 75-76 cb750f rear caliper.
Except they mount on the left side.

They are a lot cheaper on eBay than the CB750f calipers. Would there be any problem mounting it on the right side upside down on my 75 CB750f?

Reason is because the stay for it is on the left vs the right side.

Not sure if there will be fitment issue, but if the bleeder is upside down (points down)
it won't bleed out.    just an fyi....

When I bleed brakes I connect a rubber tube and insert it into a glass of brake fluid.

So that won't be a problem.

<Smacks forehead> no he means air bubbles don't travel downward. So if you are doing the pump and crack method, the air bubbles won't come out. You would need to either reverse bleed or vacuum bleed.

Ah ha. True. I could bleed it up right detached from the axle. When bled then slide the axle in and bolt it together.

Other than that do you fore see any problem with it upside down or side ways?

Turn it right side up to bleed it,then mount it upside down.thats how the read caliper is mounted on my panhead,works just fine

I dig the advice. I think ll plunge into the cheaper route and let every one know ho it turns out.

Sorry I haven't gotten to this.

Some one pointed out that the Caliper upside down would now have force pulling the caliper stay bar, instead of the force pushing into it.

Does anyone have any opinions in regards to a gl1000 Caliper being up side down?

I think it would work fine, even with pulling on the stay bar.  But I also think it will be a gigantic headache every time you have to deal with service back there.

Works good,the caliper on my panhead has been upside down for 25 years,no issues

Andrewk, 75-76 only fit. The late Fs are way off in size. There's no way I'm ditch I'm my Lester's haha.

You use the bracket too, it fits.  Late F and early F use the same rear rotor, and despite the difference in the drive side with late model bikes, the brake side remains the same.

I know they fit cause I've done it. :D

Upside down works too, just giving you options, if you care to believe me. :)

How the spacing?

You were probably getting fed information about the front brakes, which are different.  I see a lot of confusion about it.

The late F comstar rear wheel uses the exact same rotor as the early F spoked wheel.  Same part number.

The difference between the early and late rear brakes is that the early one was a non-floating design, and used two pistons.   The late model uses a floating design (so caliper can be removed from bracket) and a single piston, but the caliper bracket is the same dimension at the wheel axle spacer portion as the early caliper, so spacing is on.

Only change you might have to make is the rear brake line, which I'm sure is on your radar if you're thinking about flipping one.

I didn't think about it until I saw the pics, but having the brake line hang down towards the ground like it is would worry the crap out of me.  I would be worried that something would hit and cut it.  It is completely exposed with nothing to shield it from road debris.
