Best wishes for the peace of mind that comes from having done a good job of caring for your dad.
No what ifs, or If I had just... now that your dad is resting at ease, I hope you can keep all the good memories intact, and yourself rest easy.

I hope you can also find some peace with your remaining family, although things sound fairly troubled.

Good luck Bill and all best!

Thank You everyone for your Condolences, It has been a long day.. We set up a 2 hour visitation so we can have one separate from his brother's so we really don't have to run into each other. The only time we really have to deal with him is at the grave site and we being fair with the seating as we are giving his brother the larger portion of the chapel for his part of the family and we are taking the smaller family room since there will only be 9 of us. He is going to get a military Funeral and the funeral home is getting ahold of the PGR rep. for this area to make a little more memorable for the family. Still have more to do tomorrow but ALMOST got everything done, Just have to get the suit to them and some pictures and the final piece of paper they need for Full Military Honor's.

http://www.griffinleggettresthills.com/obituaries/tribute.html?url=http://stei-23677.tributes.com/search/cobrand_search This is where you can go to pay your respects to his dad if you would like.  ;) Look Under Walter Van Pelt.. You can read his Obituary and sign the guest book.. we are not as shallow as his brother and his kids think we are.. we did mention them and praying they at least bring in some pictures of them with his dad to as we couldn't find any around here of them except maybe 2 or 3.. Here's praying all goes well..  8)

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I have a bad feeling about this. My guess is that someone in your brothers side will try some legal wrangling.  I saw a similar thing with my Mother-In-Law and one of her sisters.  When her parents passed, the sister wanted an accounting of the money, but the joke was on her. The parents had run through their money, and my MIL had been paying for a couple years, and accounted for EVERYTHING. When she asked the sister to chip in, they disappeared.

I hope I'm wrong.

Thank you all, for your support, it does mean alot to us. We are just trying to get through this, with as little commotion as possible. IF my brother or any of them try top cause a problem, the Sheriff's Dept, knows the situation and is ready to take care of the problems, if they arise. They even show up on the property, I was told to call 911 and they will handle it. Everything is taken care of, legally. I don't know what they think they can do. my Dad's Home and property that it sits on, was legally listed with both of our names and, set up that, in the event that something happened to either one of us, the survivor would retain possession. And, the will is done in a way, to make it impossible to dispute, as well. And, everything that my Dad had done, through a proper Lawyer, was filed with the Court House, as he instructed me to do, even the will. So, we will just have to wait and see what he thinks he can do. I just wish he would get it through that THICK skull of his, that it IS over (much to his disbelief)! We are trying to move on and he needs to do the same.

Something that was put together from on the way to the burial site.. We wanted to share with our family here. Hope you enjoy it.. The service went smoothly and it was very Touching.. Didn't really sink in for both of us till they did the shot gun salute and taps started playing and they started to fold the flag.. We want to THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS for ALL your support and prayers.. Now that his dad is laid to rest and his brother behaved himself I believe we can move on with our life and start moving forward. Again enjoy the little 30 second Tribute that I was able to make on Flip gram.

Yeah, Paul, pretty much. Even though, the funeral home had intended for David and his bunch to be there for the 1st hour of the visitation and us being there for the 2nd hour. When the young lady from the funeral home called and told David what was arranged, he said, "I'll be there at 12". Yeah, never could go with someone else's plan! The David and his youngest son walked out, as they were preparing for the viewing, at the end of the service. David didn't show, for the Cemetery portion either. Oh well, I got to see and visit with some old friends and have to say that receiving the Flag and the shell casings from the Gun Salute, kind of sat me back somewhat. But, now Dad is with Mom and many other folks who had already gone on and not suffering any more.

Thank you Paul and to the others who have come on here and posted, as it does mean a great deal to us!   ;)

You are right, Paul and as soon as I can be assured, that david will let it go and not bother us, the better it will be. We are working toward closure here. There is a not so large round table in the living room, that Michelle wants to place a few things, to be a rememberance of him, top include the Flag and the "spent" rounds presented to me at the service. I still need to get one of those display boxes for the folded U.S. Flag. Trying to leave the crap behind Paul, sure trying. Thanks for posting.

Thank you, Buddy. Doesn't seem like it has already been a week, as of yesterday. I don't do it now, but for a few days, I would catch myself easing up to his bedroom door, to check and make sure he was all right. Then, realizing that he wasn't even there. He is with my God and Mom and Family members and Friends who have gone on before him. Certainly have those memories. Thinking seriously about making note of those and things he has told me, about meeting my Mom and such as that, so those will be around, after I reach the time where my memory is shot.
