The crankcase breather hose connects the top of the motor (breather cover, I think) to the air box drain.

Ok thanks. It's kind of a closed loop type of a deal. I only ask because on the air filter housing I have a round drain with two ports on it. I thought maybe the crankcase fumes would be filtered, so air filter would catch any oily fumes. That would in turn leave the air box drain open to the atmosphere so that wouldn't work.
one pointing to the side is the inlet from the breather tube, which allows the vapor to be recycled back into the engine.
the down spout is the outlet and collects the leftover effluent, which is cleaned out at service intervals.
if you've never opened this filter up, you need to. its probably filled with mayo.
