Got the '75 750F Turbo tonight! Some pics and stuff.
« on: September 11, 2006, 06:23:10 PM »
Got the turbo tonight.  In the garage, along with the '76 550F also in Sunrise Orange.

It came with a second set of clubmans, which are made for Honda internal wiring from the factory!  Check out the welds - that's vintage quality stuff in my book.  Also of course the Rickman fairing, and the original packing documentation from the Martek 440 electronic ignition.  Oh, and a Clymer manual as well.

It's pretty nice all things considered.  Needs a complete once-over of course.  Haven't popped off the air cleaner yet to see what kind of carb I'm dealing with, and need to get close up to the Turbo to see what model of Rajay it is.

Some pics.

That thing is gonna be killer once u are dont with it.
Little things like moving the fuel pump so it is out of sight will really make that bike trick.

Remember , Big blow-off valve and a SHORT downpipe !  ;D

Engine serial is CB750E-2505813 and frame 1005686 so it seems to be '75 all around, albeit what seems to be a very late '75 engine and early frame - made 2/75.

Also found out why there was a very, very neat cutout on the fuel tank flip - it's to clear the boost gauge.  Very nice neat minimal cutout - bars have to be turned to the left to let the lid clear the boost gauge.

Popped off the air filter - still no idea what carb it is - need to remove the filter backing plate.  Seems to be imperial size bolts, which considering the turbo kit is American, shouldn't be a surprise I guess.  When I twist the throttle, a squirt of fuel is injected into the carb - is this typical for 750's?  I've only ever riddin my 500/550's at all so am unfamiliar with 750 bits.

Also found the original tool kit under the seat - complete :)

Aside fromt the exhaust manifold and the muffler from the turbo, the rest looks dead-on.  Where'd you find the page?

I see the bike parts in the house but not the wife !! Did you sneak it in or did she get pissed and bail? Hopefully she'll be appreciative that you bought her a bike.  ::)  :o  ;D Sometimes they just don't get it ?!

Don't you think the turbo would look better in blue??

Less than .75c/cc that is a blatant rip off - seller should have given it to you, imagine all the horrible times you are going to have riding it, and giving the finger to all the crotch rockets and harleys you pass... ;D

The seller trailered it for 1.5 hours to my place and then turned around for another 1.5 hour trip home.  Great guy obviously.  Came through rush hour Toronto traffic to boot.

Looking forward to tinkering with it, but first I need to finish the 550.

Although the Super "E" is a good carb and I use one on my bike, I would not use it on this engine unless it has a very large displacement and is for race only.  The larger venturi of the Super "E" (1 7/8" or 47.6mm) which allows good air flow at WOT will cause low velocity flow and poor throttle response on the bottom and mid range.

The Bendix (Zenith) carbs can be made to run well if you work with them also Mr Turbo made some Mikuni carbs that worked well on these bikes.  They both had 40-42mm venturis.

Another choice would be the newer Mikuni HSR42 or possibly the HSR45 ( I think too big).

Cheers, Tom
