Topic: remote oil filter????

Hey guys and girls was wondering if anyone has heard of a remote oil filter  its for a 73 750 (I really messed up the original spot  threads are gone and looking to put a plate down there and just let the oil flow thru that area un filtered and put a romote one in the inline up by the oil tank any one got any ideas thanks  seven fifty four ever  Craig

...yes, I have seen this before on choppers...only in pictures though, but it can be done.  May want to try some of the chopper web sites...

a lot of the older turbo kits had remote oil kits because turbos need oil so the stuff is out there used (be prepared to pay). I know someone out there makes an oil cooler kit which works the same way but I haven't a clue who. A heli coil would probably fix your old threads though and really you don't want to be mucking around on a cb750s oils sytem too much since it also cools the motor.

hey thanks alot guys  there is nothing left to put a heli coil into the thread that were there broke right off yup thirty years of pulling my own wrenches and boy did I f&^%$%%^ up this time   I did  find a way to mount the canister without a filter BUT the stock canister bolt is also a check vavle thingy for the oil pressure so next move is extract engine and take it and have it welded huh Im a pipe welder and  structural but no aluminum  grrrrr well back to pulling wrenches  thanks guys  (hard lesson learned) seven fifty four ever

But, that's exactly what a helicoil does...replace removed threads.  Threads are made wider and the helicoil insert brings it back to the proper thread size.  Welding oil soaked alluminum makes me cringe.  But, do what you are most comfortable with doing.

Now we know why Honda only put a 12 mm hex head on the oil filter bolt, I guess.

I'm a helicoil fan, but in this case Craig I reckon a Keensert will be just what you need, even if you've mangled the hole, the 20 x 1.5mm keensert has an OD of 30 x 2mm so you could effectively lose up to 8mm of material and this thing will still make it look shiny and new, without taking the engine out and stripping the cases! wow Terry  thats quite a  thing  but  I have no room for one of those even. see at the end of the threads  there is the oil return hole where the filter bolt screws in it had a about an 1/4 inch rise well thats gone so if I put one of those  keenserts it would plug the return hole for the oil but  thanks for that link it might come in handy the next time I screw up  seven fifty four ever Craig

G'Day Craig, why not loosely assemble the keensert into the hole, then mark where the oil return hole is gonna be, take the keensert out again, drill an oversize hole in it (just in case your calculations are out) and then re-install it, permanently? Just a thought mate, but I reckon it'd work? Cheers, Terry.

As most of this work is engine out anyway best solution is a second hand set of cases and rebuild the beast with new cam chain etc. In comparison to getting the lump out the rest is easy! I personally would not trust alloy welding in that area also you have to get the thread exactly square or the filter will leak. As somewone else said thats why Honda only put a 12mm hex on that bolt
