I wouldn't touch it. It's too clean for me. I would buy another cheap one on CL and keep this one stock.

Ahem....getting back on topic....did you get that rear brake strap from Joker Machine? As I finished polishing up a piece on my bike today I noticed that my skin was itching. I wanted to take a bit of Mothers aluminum polish and rub it on my gums to help my jonesin but I was able to resist. I thought about polishing up the strap on my bike but it's not aluminum and it just wouldn't be the same.

No kidding, Chris.  I thought I was in the Twilight Zone there for a second or not in the loop for some joke on me!

The strap is not a Joker Machine piece but similar.  It's just a simple bar with similar holes (but not the inset channel as with the Joker piece).  My buddy Ian Halcott made it for me in exchange for an extra brake stabilizer strap I had laying around.  The same guys who polished up my fork legs did it for nothing.

Don...what's the reason for the pro taper clutch lever? I mean...what are the advantages over say the stock one?

It has a ball bearing hinge with a much smoother lighter and even pull.

Yesterday, I made my way out to the Born Free 7 Show.  A HUGE weekend event with thousands of motorcycles and an enormous crowd.  This is the 7th year of the show, which was created by 2 local Long Beach guys now in their early 30's. 

My little 550 was definitely in the minority in a sea of V-Twins.  She didn't get a wink or a nod in a sea of beards, tattoos and girls with daddy issues.

I had a pleasant surprise from a CHP motorcycle cop Saturday.  He followed me off an exit from the freeway/expressway and pulled up next to me.  I was thinking, "Did I do anything?"  He leans over and say, "Hey I just wanted a closer look at your bike.  That's beautiful."

That's awesome!  I like those moments.  It really makes you feel good and appreciate all the hard work that you put into your bike.  It happened to my last Friday.  I was working in my garage on my bike.  The tank and seat was off.  This guy walks by and comments on my Ducati and then starts asking me questions about my 750.  Then he asked me if I wanted to see something cool and showed me a picture of my bike that he had on his phone.  He happened to be at the DMV when I took my bike to get it registered and took a picture of it while I had it on the trailer.  It was a great feeling!

Awesome story Sam. Once that oil issue is sorted, you'll be able to get to breaking in that motor.
