I heard Don was riding so fast through Joshua Tree that they called him Bullet The Blue Sky.  But that was before he had the Hindles on the bike so likely no one heard him.

All they will hear now is a Rattle and Hum as he goes flying past.

You might be right, Stev-o.  I've tried like hell to enjoy the sounds of U2, but I... Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

Crap... now I see Cal already used that one.

No worries, mate.  When Don rides his bike, all he sees is Pride -- In the Name of Love.

And he'll be riding it this weekend.  When all is quiet -- on New Years Day.

Haha!  Good one, Ron!

OK, I get it.... they have a million hit songs.  My hate is clearly unwarranted, because I can't even explain why I don't like them.  I'm sure Bono is a very talented singer/songwriter.  But to me, his voice is the opposite of the Sweetest Thing.

Absolutely hilarious, guys!!  ;D  I did enjoy listening to the Joshua Tree in Joshua Tree, even if I was Running to Stand Still In God's Country.  If you haven't made it to this National Park, it's worth it.  Peaceful and serene.

Back to work tomorrow, but I'm holding out for some riding on New Year's Day since it will be raining Thursday through Sunday.   >:(

It was mid 50's here in Georgia today with rain last night but nice today.  I rode into downtown Atlanta (about 40 mile rides of interstate riding) earlier today to pick up tacos for lunch from a place my wife loves.  After lunch, I went for a 2 hour ride up into the mountains.

I'm dreading when it gets down to the usual winter weather where it's too cold to ride and I have to put the bike up for a few months.

I noticed that in Georgia (at least between Atlanta and Fayetteville where my cousin lives), bridges are prone to black ice in the Winter.  Yikes!

Very true but we usually only get that a few times per year and only when the temps drop well below 32 and some type of precipitation is involved.  I think we topped out in the high 50's earlier today.  But with a balaclava and the heated grips on the BMW, combined with the taller winter windshield I have on it, it's really not bad at all.  Plus the side fairing pieces block a good portion of the wind from your legs as well.

I rode with a buddy from work earlier in the week for a mountain ride up to one of the state parks.  He rides a Yamaha cruiser with no windshield and no fairings and we agreed to swap bikes for about 20 miles on the ride home.  Riding down the interstate on his bike was brutal and the temps were only in the 40's although there was quite a bit of wind.  When we swapped back and I got back onto the BMW, I was reminded why I wanted this bike instead of a traditional cruiser.  He called me that night and told me, "I think I'm going to look into getting one of those; I like sitting high up like that."

The GS has that (wind protection), comfortable ergos and ridiculous range.  I haven't converted though.  A have a buddy who chews up thousands of miles on his GS even through snow, but he has heated gear, too.

I'm going to take an 8 - 10 day ride in the spring as the weather begins to warm (sometime in late March, April or May).  As it stands right now, I'll probably hit about 5 or 6 states around the southeast.  I have a few places I want to visit, a restaurant in North Carolina I want to try, some people I want to see and some guys I want to go for a ride with (including cal if his schedule synchs up around that time).  I don't know how much of that will be off-road but we own a lot of land below Columbus (about 1600 acres) and I'm definitely going to do some off-road riding there.

2.5 square miles is a good chunk of turf!! You could set up your own off-road course, etc.!

Ron that sounds awesome. If I am able to actually ride my 550 this summer and figure out if I really enjoy riding a motorcycle then I'd like to find something that would be good to explore mild trails and the endless fire roads, passes, and old mining relics we have out here. Now I just hike up to see them but it sure would be cool to ride to them and be able to bring along more stuff instead of going so light while backpacking and having to consider every ounce that goes along.

Now you know that I don't know much about motorcycles but that would probably be a great bike for what I would like to do. I really want to like the KTM 990 but that's an awfully big bike and, loaded, would probably not be too fun to pick up by myself and I know I wouldn't be able to take it on mild trails. I love the 690 but it's expensive to outfit it with stuff like a taller screen to help make any paved sections a bit more bearable. Right now I think I'd just deal with it in stock form and enjoy it. Gonna be a while before I really get serious about looking because I gotta finish this current project and then I want to make sure I enjoy riding it. Wonder if Yamaha will make that and if we'll see it over here? Husky just put out something that really looks like a 690 in their colors.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
