So, both my vintage AP calipers



and my new AP Racing (twin 41.3 mm pistons) would not clear the Lesters:

So here are some of the candidates to replace my stock dual calipers:

Brembo F05 calipers (single 32 mm pistons) -- harder to find, but compatible with thinned stock rotors and AHRMA approved

NOTHING to be ashamed about there.  If I had someone who could have polished ours for $30, I would have had them in his hands before the "s" sound was finished in the word "dollars".  We spent several hours on our fork lowers to get them back to presentable stage.

In our case, I'm glad we did it so that Logan could get the experience but that's a job that I would gladly hire out for that low of a cost.

If the LED bulbs are like the ones on my headlight, there are LED diodes in multiple directions.

I get that but my bulb is a sealed beam system.  So to put LED's in, I'm going to have to replace that lens and reflector with one that accepts the LED's.  I'm just wondering where you guys get such a lens/reflector kit from?

I'm glad it was easy for you with no diodes. I tried that on both my bikes with no luck, ended up having to make a small 3 wire in-line harness. Bike looks great!!

Ahh. I purchased that lens years ago. I think I bought it from Carpy. One of his tri-bar lenses. The reflector was built in. I, too, got confused since my mind was on the blinker change.

NOTE: if you google tri-bar 7" headlight, you will find vendors selling the housing with the reflector for less than 1/2 of what Carpy prices his at or DCC.

Are you referring to a flash relay?  By diodes, I was referring to Light Emitting Diode -- the actual light producing part of the LED bulb.

The turn signals I just installed have regular bulbs.  If I swap them out for LEDs (like my headlight), I probably will need a digital flash relay, since this bike has Older School wiring.

The diodes should only be necessary to isolate the idiot light when the is a single light for turn signal ON but there are 2 channels supplying that signal (L or R). The diode prevents the L side from blinking, the idiot light from illuminating, then back feeding into turning the R side on also. Make sense?

I had to deal with putting diodes in when I installed my mini gauges with the idiot light built in on my 750. Not too much of a hassle but I had a wiring cheat sheet someone else had previously posted.

I think that Brent (bwaller) uses Brembo F05s on his 550 race bike with thinned rotors.  I was concerned that the smaller single pistons might not offer as much stopping power as the other calipers, but if they work for Brent under race abuse, they should be fine. 

For now, I will probably just run the bike with the stock, squeaky dual calipers.  This bike has been off the road too long, and I want to enjoy the new paint!

Shamefully, YES.  $30 to polish the pair to a mirror finish and I got them back within a week.

$30 really, what a bargain, where is this place. Also i didnt realize you could do clear powder coating. What did pay for powdercoat, its expensive up here in, place by me wanted $5-600 for a frame and pieces

Hi Mark,

I gave them to my painter Bondo and he has a guy who picks up and drops off polishing. I just gave him my crusty forks assembled and he gave them back shiny with my spare parts. Cannot argue with that for $30!

My buddy Jay sent the forks out for clear powdercoating with other parts from his shop. We did a trade for some spare parts I bought from KrautKoffin so it was a wash.  ;D
