530 conversion

Looking to buy all my stuff for converting my bike from a 630 chain to a 530 chain. What does this take? Seems like there is an alignment issue I keep reading about.... I have a 1977 Cb750k. Thanks! And chain preferences and why.

No conversion per se, just buy 530 chain and sprockets, really that easy. You can get standard non o-ring, not a big deal and is a bit cheaper. O-ring requires less greasing intervals but its not some miracle worker that results in never having to grease the chain again. If you buy the chain and sprockets paired it is usually cheaper. Buy the highest tensile strength chain you can get, it 'stretches' less. Also 102 links is min links on most 750's, get 17t front and 48t rear sprockets

The misalignment comes from people getting good deals on 77-78 rear wheels or engines and just putting them in to early model 69-76. Vice versa is same idea. The 77-78 have a different offset, nothing an offset sprocket couldn't fix anyway

 Thanks that is the first time I've read how many 102 links I would get a few more would rather cut a few off than be to short. I'm just about due for a change over. Will 17t front and 48t rear be the same ratio as the stock was? I would like to drop my rpms on the top end just a little so would that be a 46 rear?

Guys have done 18t front. It drops the revs but is kinda slouchy off the line, its a real miler kinda set. I haven't played with the rear, sorry

102 is min for a 530. You will need to bring the axle pretty much totally forward but its fine. I riveted mine and it still manages to get on there. Leaves more adjustment for a better chain

You can google several different spreadsheet that calculate rpms and speed based on sprocket ratios. I run 17/48 and 4000 rpms is about 62mph. Very happy with the power kick and the overall butt dyno evaluation.

I picked up a set of 520 sprockets at the end of the summer from a guy locally, both are cycle x brand. 17f and 46r, which gives me a gear ratio of 2.71 according to jt sprockets 530 chart. My stock 15 & 41 630 sprockets ratio is 2.73 so I'm good with the new 520 ratio. I grabbed a 520 rk race chain off a guy locally as well last month, it's rated for modern sport bikes up to 1000cc so it'll be plenty strong for my 77 750k lol.

If you go to JT sprockets website they have a gear ratio chart you can double check what ratio your current one is vs. the new sizes, I like my stock ratio and the 520 set is pretty darn close to stock. Haven't put it on yet but will in the springtime.

I'm surprised you so easily sourced a 520 set up? I thought they were expensive for our bikes

Hey bj, the sprockets are cycle-x's 520 conversion kit. They offer a 17 or an 18 front and the 46 tooth rears, I can't off hand remember their price as I got mine from a guy here in town on Craigslist. He had a bunch of leftover new parts from a cb750 he had sold befor installing them, got a decent price on all of it. Chain was easy to find, Craigslist as well. Guy worked at a local Harley dealership and had it left over from his gsxr750 race bike he sold off. New in box, never opened. Got it for 40$ under retail, but I had to buy a link riviter.


Edit: $39 for the fronts and $75 for the rear, or they have chain and sprocket kits as well.

Just in the past few weeks I ordered new JT sprockets (17/48) and a EK brand 530 110 link HD chain (7700lbs) and with shipping, it was under $100.
