Fun fact about NLA parts ordering from David Silver Spares
« on: March 03, 2014, 11:07:54 AM »
I may be the last to know this, but maybe not.

Looking for some oddball metal 'setting collars' for the headlamp area, I discovered that they are NLA from Honda. Poked around a few sites, eBay, and the only place I found them was at CMSNL for their typically exorbitant prices. I inquired of David Silver and they advised, yes, they had them, for somewhat less than CMSNL. They told me to simply put the part number into their part search and sure enough, they came up, although they were NOT listed on their product pages.

SO...

The takeaway is that if you're trying to find a NLA part, don't rely on their 'browse' function to see if they have it - enter the Honda part number in their search form and you may be pleasantly surprised as I was.

Yes you are correct I did this a couple of years ago after calling them. Same thing goes for my local Honda shop they don't advertise anything but new bike parts but I have got a lot of things for my 78 that the guy at the desk didn't know they had. One of the older sales guys saw me pull up and came out to look at my bike and said I think there is some stuff in storage up stairs for that bike. Bingo right place at the right time :o :o I went and made a bank transfer and got the truck. :)

the list of parts with photos for any model is just a small amount of what david silvers have, always use the search by part number function if you dont see what you need, they only display the common or fast moving stuff that mostly sells.

I picked up a new tach and new swingarm from DSS and neither part was listed. He actually had 5 of the tachs too! One year one model tach that wasn't even sold in Europe. The swingarm was cheaper than powder coating my take off and it had new bushings on both ends. Nowhere else to be found and I got them for cheap. Plugged in the part number and they showed up.

Let me clarify dave500's clarification.  Always use the search box. Everywhere, on every site. It's amazing what is hidden in the databases.  And not just on the internet--we have one in our pantry and there is almost always one more cookie or piece of chocolate that would otherwise never be found.
:-).  :-).  :-)

On a related David Silvers note. I was searching for NOS rocker arms for my bike and I could not find them browsing the 550 parts line on their site. I entered the part number and BAM! More than 10 in stock.  ;D

We had a magical Heineken 12 pack once; never ran out of beer.  Later that night we were so amazed we made the mistake to rip the top of the box off instead of reaching in from the side. . .the magic died :'(

What I find is if you enter the centre 3 digit p/N (eg 300 for the K0 750 , 286 for CB350 twin) it comes up with lots or parts not generally listed.

I got David himself to join the SOHC uk site a few weeks ago but it was a sheer coincidence and a real  shame that there were a few negative comments on there about his prices and us all 'making him rich' so I think he bowed out. I got a Facebook message from him saying that if any of us have specific queries that we should air them on the forum and that I should point him to the post.

Him American trip recently sourcing NOS parts was  really interesting!

https://www.facebook.com/SilverSpares          you need to go back to very early 2014 for his USA trip!
To me the guy is marvelous in that he has helped us out some much by sourcing NOS parts. Personally I have nothing but praise for him. OK he is maybe making good money but what's wrong with that.  CMS are another story though!!!

Cheers.... AshD

I have always found it as easy as just typing the part number of any part into a google search bar and it will bring up a gazillion places that have it. I have no problem with David making a fair profit after how much money he has invested in having a one stop place for most hard to find Honda parts. It isn't always about the cheapest price.
