yes. i need to get some three-legged hip waders at this point...
i third the DIY route...as frustrating as it has been it's totally worth it.
I've got some potentially stupid, wheel newbie-ish questions.. I've just levered on my rear tire, and stupidly decided to wait until the tire was already mounted to check for true on that rim. Runout is not really noticable.. I got lucky with that. BUT, there is about 1mm of hop to the rim. SO: Should I ignore the hop which is probably just barely within the realm of acceptable? Will this hop wear my new tire into an out-of-round shape?
I've never trued a motorcycle rim before. Would practicing on a bicycle rim do any good as far as practice is concerned? Or is it an entirely different deal? Also, am I a fool to leave the tire on the rim when trying to tweak out that 1mm hop? Does removing the tire after it has been installed put too much wear and tear on the tire?
->EDIT:
Oh yeah, almost forgot.. The wheel hop: I've been trying to read up on wheel trueing. One guy suggests for a hop, tighten on the high side, loosen on the other side. I definately can see tightening on the high side to pull the rim back into true. BUT- do I really want to loosed the other side of the rim, when it is already good? I'd much rather just try to pull the rim back into line where it is out!
