Effin daylight savings time
« on: March 11, 2014, 03:06:19 AM »
Last week when I woke it was to a sunlit morning. Granted, it was under 10 degrees, but this morning its dark as can be,  and I just kicked something and hurt my foot.
I feel like we have gone backwards in putting winter behind us.

Anybody else question the reason for daylight savings  time?

I kind of like it. Every time we have a time change, the computers at work get screwed up and it's an easy half day before they get it back up. But yeah, it is just some corporate inspired crap to sweat more work out of the labor class.

I like it. I'd rather have the light later in the evening than earlier in the morning. I get more done outside after work.

I'm not a big fan of it myself. Partly because we live rather far west in our time zone so it stays light way to late for me. I think the original rationale for it was sketchy and more so today. Just my $0.02 though.

It aggravates me even more when we go up to the western U.P. each summer. It's even farther west (Lake Gogebic) so it's daylight until 10:00 P.M. Even worse, if you drive two miles down the lake, or a few miles west on M-28 towards Wakefield, boom your in the Central Time zone, but still in Michigan.  >:(

I miss my days in Indiana when they didn't FARK with the clocks!!

Yep, 24 hours is 24 hours, except when it's 23 hours one day of the year and 25 hours another day.....

I've always been an early riser and fairly early to bed, so I like the light in the morning, not so much late at night.

I also haven't figured out why we (Indiana) are on Eastern time..... I guess the sun rises and sets the same time here as it does in New York? We should have been on Central time, we have our former governor to thanks for that..... idiot!

Yep i wish it was DLST all the time. Especially in June when it's light until 10PM around here. You can get lots of riding in even after work.

This spring time change is definitely the hardest one to get "over" IMO. It has to do twith the daylight change. Waking up in the dark basically sucks dog balls!

If y'all listen real close you can hear me playing the violin for ya...  :'( :'( :'( ::)

It reduces lighting use.

Every day you loose 1+min of dark in the morning, and 1+min of dark in the evening.  A least to June 21st.

Rate of change varries with lattitude and date, passing thru zero at the longest & shortest days of the year.

It will be light when your cranky butts have to climb out of bed soon.   ;)

I am an early riser by habit, and when I have a day or two off to go riding, I love putting some miles on before everyone else gets going. If it's light out I don't worry so much about deer, although I do keep an eye peeled. I also try to finish with work by 2.30, because otherwise it interferes with my nap.

Its mostly the south/central part of WA state that produces the majority of the wines here, but there are two really small ones in Snohomish.

I never understood the reduces lighting use thing. Now I turn on lights earlier in the morning instead of earlier in the evening. It's like TwoTired said, cutting the end of the blanket and sewing on the other end expecting a longer blanket.

Years ago daylight savings time wasn't an issue in my part of Indiana. In the winter we'd go to EST then come summer we'd switch to CST, basically we never had to change our clocks. The problem was not every county followed the same time zone so it was a mess. Now most Indiana counties are on EST year round.
